North Jakarta, Jakarta

A busy waterfront area connecting the city to the Thousand Islands across the bay, North Jakarta is a travel destination in its own right. It features the massive recreation complex of Ancol Dreamland along with a thriving culinary scene. Opened in 1985, Dunia Fantasi remains one of the most popular family attractions in Jakarta with iconic rides such as Halilintar and Kora-Kora. The amusement park is located within the Ancol Dreamland complex, which also boasts other fun attractions such as Atlantis Water Adventure, Seaworld Ancol, Alive Museum, and several seafood restaurants. More culinary treats can be found around Kelapa Gading or Pantai Indah Kapuk, a popular hangout spot that rivals the hip neighborhoods of South Jakarta. The area is also home to several shopping malls, a fun water park, a huge golf course, and, surprisingly, a mangrove park that serves as a welcome retreat from the hectic city life.
