Get your JR East Pass (Tohoku area) Flexible 5 Days e-ticket now! We’re thrilled to announce that for the first time you can now purchase your Japan Rail Pass with Voyagin – giving you unlimited travel around East Japan (Tohoku Area) by the legendary Shinkansen (Bullet Trains) for a fixed price! ◆ Do I need a JR Pass for my trip to Japan? That depends on what you intend to do while visiting Japan. If you plan to spend most or all of your time in just one city, a JR Pass would not represent the best value. But if you want to quickly, easily and comfortably visit several of the main cities in Japan during your trip, then buying the JR Pass makes a lot of sense. When you’re not familiar with the Japanese rail network, getting around by train might seem like a challenging prospect. With the JR Pass, everything becomes so much simpler. Valid for 5 days out of 14 after exchanging your voucher, this JR Pass allows you to travel on any JR East train as well as local buses and many other affiliated lines. Kids aged 6–11 pay the cheaper child price, while those aged under 6 can travel for free (without a seat), so it’s perfect for family groups. Shinkansen are renowned not only for their speed but their luxury, reliability, and punctuality. And, with the JR Pass, virtually the entire network is at your fingertips. ◆ What do I need to know about the JR Pass? - Important! The JR Pass is only available to non-residents of Japan, entering the country on a Temporary Visa, and with a corresponding stamp in their passport. You will need to enter the country through a manned gate or ask a clerk to stamp your passport. If you enter through a non-manned, automated gate, you will not receive the necessary stamp. - Your JR Pass will allow you unlimited travel on Shinkansen during the time period selected, except the Tokaido, which is owned by a different company than JR East. - A JR Pass doesn't guarantee a seat. Luckily, advance seat reservations do not cost you any extra. Advance reservations are highly recommended, especially at peak times. - Food and drink: all Shinkansen offer at least a trolley service, but you can also purchase tasty sushi boxes on many station platforms. - You must pass through manned gates to have your ticket checked when traveling. Occasionally, you may also need to present your passport. - Your JR Pass cannot be exchanged, or reissued if lost or stolen. - Two children (aged up to 5) can travel free of charge when accompanied by an adult rail pass holder, assuming they do not occupy a seat, but a third child, or a child aged 6–11, will require a child rail pass. - The date you select on our calendar is your preferred date to receive the exchange order for the pass. The exchange order has a lifespan of 90 days from sending. ◆ What routes can I travel with a JR Pass? The JR Pass provides big savings for long-distance rail travel over a short period. If you only use it for urban transportation in one city, it won't provide good value for money. The following coverage map indicates the routes you can use with your JR Pass. Remember that you will not be able to travel on the Tokaido Shinkansen heading south from Tokyo, or certain routes not owned by Japan Rail.
