More about Seoul

Things to do in Seoul

The vibrant capital of South Korea, Seoul, offers a unique glimpse into a world where past and present coexist in unforgettable ways. Whether you’re strolling through the neon-lit streets of Myeongdong, exploring historic hanok villages in Bukchon, or hiking up scenic trails in Bukhansan National Park, there’s something new to explore for every kind of traveller. Its energetic city vibe draws in K-pop fans, street-style enthusiasts, and foodies alike. From ancient temples to sleek skyscrapers and bustling neighbourhoods, Seoul is a city where timeless tradition meets bold innovation at every turn.

Unique Seoul things you can’t do anywhere else

  • Wear Hanbok and Explore the Gyeongbokgung Palace: Explore the magical Gyeongbokgung Palace in traditional Hanbok attire — it’s something straight out of a period K-drama, and you’re living in it.
  • Visit a K-pop Entertainment Agency Building: All the top K-pop agency headquarters are in Seoul. For K-pop fans, visiting the headquarters of SM, HYBE, JYP, or YG Entertainment should definitely be on your Seoul bucket list.
  • Stay Overnight In A Jjimjilbang: Experience a full night in a 24-hour Korean bathhouse like Dragon Hill Spa — complete with hot tubs, saunas, sleeping rooms, snack bars, and even arcades.
  • Eat Michelin-Starred Food At Gwangjang Market: Foodies, rejoice! Try iconic Seoul delicacies like mayak gimbap, bindaetteok, and knife-cut noodles in one of Asia’s oldest and liveliest food markets.

Best Seoul attractions to see

  • Gyeongbokgung Palace: The grandest of Seoul’s five palaces, Gyeongbokgung is a stunning symbol of Korea’s royal heritage. Watch the changing of the guard (that happens three times daily) and explore the palace grounds in traditional hanbok for the full experience.
  • N Seoul Tower: Also known as the Namsan Tower, this iconic tower is located atop Namsan Mountain with panoramic views of the city skyline. Our tip? Visit during sunset for the most magical view. And if you’re here with a loved one, don’t forget to leave a lock on the ‘love lock’ fence, too.
  • Myeongdong Shopping Street: Shop ‘til you drop at Myeongdong Shopping Street — from K-beauty and fashion boutiques to the best tteokbokki you’ve ever had.
  • Bukchon Hanok Village: Wander through the narrow lanes of this preserved traditional village. Like stepping back in time, Bukchon Hanok village is lined with centuries-old hanok homes, many of which still have residents within.
  • Hongdae: No trip to Seoul is complete without stopping by Hongdae. Seoul’s youthful, artsy district that’s packed with live music, clubs, street performers, quirky cafes, and vintage stores.
  • Gwangjang Market: One of Korea’s oldest and most famous food markets — you’ll want to come hungry as you’ll get the chance to try traditional foods like delicious mayak gimbap and sweet and chewy bindaetteok.

Best Seoul day trips and tours

  • Demilitarised Zone (DMZ) Tour: Around 1.5 hours from Seoul is the famous DMZ — one of the world’s most heavily guarded borders. A guided tour is recommended when visiting the DMZ, as some areas require prior security clearance.
  • Nami Island Tour: Just 1.5 - 2 hours away from Seoul, Nami Island is famous for its tree-lined paths and scenic bike rides (as well as iconic K-drama filming locations). It’s the perfect day trip away from the hustle and bustle of Seoul.
  • Bukhansan National Park: An outdoor nature paradise just an hour away from Seoul. Bukhansan National Park offers scenic trails, Buddhist temples, and panoramic city views from the summit. Make sure you’ve packed appropriate footwear, as some trails are steep.
  • Incheon’s Chinatown: Approximately 1.5 hours away from Seoul is Korea’s largest Chinatown. Located in Incheon, you can try mouthwatering, authentic jjampong or tangsuyuk.

Budgeting for things to do in Seoul

Delicious street food, easy-to-navigate public transport, and casual eateries are very affordable in Seoul — making it a great destination for budget-conscious travellers. You can grab a tasty meal for just a few dollars, and shopping in places like Myeongdong is also pretty affordable. If you do want to splurge, premium experiences like a luxurious hanok stay are well worth the extra spend.

Free things to do in Seoul

  • Watch the guards change at Gyeongbokgung Palace: While entry to the palace is paid, you can see the changes of guards for free at Gwanghwamun Gate.
  • Walk along the Cheonggyecheon stream: A peaceful urban stream running through downtown Seoul, with public art and seasonal light displays. Perfect for a relaxing stroll, day or night.
  • Hike up Namsan Park: Enjoy sweeping city views from Namsan Mountain without spending a dime.
  • Wander through Bukchon Hanok village: A photogenic neighbourhood of traditional hanok. It’s a traditional and cultural escape — all free to explore on foot
