2. Tanjung Aan

Tanjung Aan is a solid starting point for getting comfortable on a surfboard. Its waves are generally slow, long, and mellow, with an A-frame shape that breaks both left and right, giving beginners plenty of time to practise balance and standing.

Located in Kuta Village, Pujut, Central Lombok, the spot can work well from November to March, when northerly offshore winds are common. Mid to high tide also brings deeper water over the mixed reef-and-sand bottom.

3. Gerupuk Bay

Gerupuk Bay is a solid place to start surfing, with five different surf spots around the bay. Inside Gerupuk has slower reef breaks that give beginners more time to practise their pop-up, while Don Don offers mellow A-frame waves breaking left and right.

Located in Gerupuk Village, Pujut District, Central Lombok, the bay works best during the dry season, from May to September, when southern swells tend to be more consistent. Conditions can still vary, so check the waves before paddling out.

4. Senggigi Beach

The next place to start surfing is Senggigi Beach. The waves around the bay tend to be steady and less aggressive, with smaller swells than many beaches in Central Lombok, making the conditions more approachable for first-timers.

You can also rent a board or book a lesson with a local instructor to learn the basics and catch your first wave. For generally drier conditions, visit between May and September or October in West Lombok.

5. Mawi Beach

Ready to level up your surfing? Mawi Beach in Praya Barat, Central Lombok, delivers a punchier ride with an A-frame reef break. Waves peel both left and right, giving intermediate surfers more room to work on their lines and turns.

The waves are powerful and fairly consistent, especially during the May to October dry season. For cleaner, more reliable conditions, August is often the sweet spot. Just remember, the reef break demands solid surfing skills and awareness.

6. Ekas Beach

If you’re ready to move beyond beginner breaks, Ekas Beach is worth a look. Its Ekas Inside section has longer, softer, and more organised waves, thanks to its sheltered position. That makes it a comfortable place for intermediate surfers to practise new techniques and manoeuvres.

You’ll find Ekas Beach in Ekas Buana Village, Jerowaru, East Lombok. For the best conditions, aim for the April to October dry season, when the wind and wave sizes are generally more favourable for surfing.

7. Are Guling

Are Guling Beach delivers fast, powerful right-hand waves, while left-hand breaks can feel friendlier under certain conditions. The reef break makes it better suited to intermediate and advanced surfers looking for a more challenging ride.

Located in Tumpak Village, Pujut, Central Lombok, the spot tends to work best from low to mid tide. For favourable offshore winds, October to April can offer better surfing conditions, depending on the swell.

8. Mangsit Beach

Want to level up your surfing without jumping straight into heavy breaks? Mangsit Beach serves up punchier beach breaks with A-frame waves that peel both left and right, giving intermediate surfers more room to practise turns, cutbacks, and paddling.

The beach also tends to feel quieter and more natural, so you won’t have to fight a crowd for every wave. Find it in Pagutan Bar., Mataram, and aim for April to October, when the dry season brings better surf conditions.

9. Desert Point (Bangko Bangko)

Ready for a serious challenge? Desert Point, also known as Bangko Bangko, is famous for its long, hollow left-hand barrels. When conditions line up, waves can run for 200 to 300 metres, making this spot a major draw for experienced surfers.

Located in Batu Putih Village, Sekotong, West Lombok, Desert Point is no casual break. Waves are fast and powerful, breaking over very shallow, sharp reef. The main surf season runs from May to September, when Indian Ocean swells are more consistent.

10. Seger Beach

If you’re ready for a more technical ride, Seger Beach brings fast, energetic waves to the table. The right-hand break, known as Seger Right, can run up to 100 metres over a shallow coral reef, making wave reading and positioning especially important.

Located in Kuta, Pujut, Central Lombok, Seger is better suited to experienced surfers. The sharp, shallow reef becomes particularly risky at low tide, while October to April can bring favourable offshore winds from the north and northeast.

11. Mekaki Beach

Mekaki Beach faces the Indian Ocean, where powerful swells create a mix of beach breaks and reef breaks. The waves can get demanding, making this a better match for experienced surfers looking for a less-mainstream spot.

You’ll find Mekaki Beach in Pelangan Village, Sekotong, West Lombok. For more favourable surf conditions, plan your visit during the dry season, roughly May to September or October, when the waves are generally more consistent.
