Singapore is one of the most popular short-break destinations for Australians — a compact, clean, and endlessly fascinating city-state that offers world-class food, iconic architecture, and efficient public transport. The even better news is that getting in is completely hassle-free. This guide covers everything Australian travellers need to know about entering Singapore, including what visa-free entry covers, when a visa might be required, and how to apply if needed.

Do Australians Need a Visa for Singapore?

No. Australian passport holders enjoy visa-free entry into Singapore for stays of up to 90 days under the Singapore Immigration and Checkpoints Authority (ICA) Visa Exemption Program. This covers tourism, social visits, transiting, and attending events. No advance application is required — simply arrive with your valid Australian passport and clear immigration.

To ensure a smooth entry, make sure the following are in order before you fly:

Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months beyond your intended departure date from Singapore
You must hold a confirmed return or onward flight ticket departing Singapore
You should be able to demonstrate sufficient funds to support your stay — a credit card or travel card is generally sufficient
Your visit must be for tourism, social, or transit purposes. Work, study, or any activity requiring a residence permit requires the appropriate visa applied for in advance

When Might Australians Need a Visa for Singapore?

The visa exemption covers the vast majority of Australian visitors, but there are situations where a visa or additional documentation may be needed:

Extended stays — if you plan to stay in Singapore for more than 90 days, you will need to apply for a Long-Term Visit Pass before arrival. This covers extended visits to family or friends
Work or study — Australians intending to work in Singapore require an Employment Pass or Work Permit; students need a Student Pass. Both require advance application and employer or institution sponsorship
Multiple entries — the standard visa exemption covers single entry. If your itinerary involves multiple entries and exits from Singapore during a trip (e.g. side trips to Malaysia or Indonesia), a Multiple Entry Visa (METV) may be needed. Confirm with the Singapore High Commission or ICA before you travel

How to Apply for a Singapore Entry Visa if Required

If you do need to apply for a visa, you have three options. Applications must be submitted within 30 days before your arrival in Singapore.

Option 1: Online Application via a Local Contact

A Singapore citizen or Permanent Resident (your "Local Contact") can submit a visa application on your behalf online using the ICA e-Service at ica.gov.sg. Your Local Contact will need a Singpass account to use the service. A visa fee of SGD 30 applies.

Option 2: In Person at an Authorised Visa Centre in Australia

VFS Australia Pty Ltd operates authorised visa centres in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, and Adelaide. Book an appointment at vfsglobal.com/singapore/australia and download the required documents before attending. A service fee of AUD 77 applies in addition to the visa fee of AUD 33.

Option 3: In Person at the Singapore High Commission in Canberra

Appointments are required. When attending, bring the completed Form 14A, a recent passport-sized photo against a white background, your original passport plus a photocopy of the biodata and signature pages, a VEVO printout confirming your valid Australian visa entitlement, and confirmed or tentative flight and accommodation bookings. The visa fee of AUD 33 is payable in cash only.

Processing takes 3 to 5 working days. If approved, your e-visa is sent via email and will specify the number of entries allowed and the validity period.
