With comfortable weather all around, February is one of the best times to explore Vietnam. Northern Vietnam is cooler and crisper, while central Vietnam enjoys sunny beach days and the south stays warm and tropical. The weather is ideal for outdoor adventures and ticking off iconic landmarks on your Vietnam itinerary.

Further, Tet (Lunar New Year) often lands in early February, so you’ll have the chance to join in on colourful celebrations and a buzzing local atmosphere. However, note that some businesses may close for Tet. With some planning beforehand, you’ll still be able to have an authentic Vietnam experience in February.

Is February a good time to visit Vietnam?

February’s comfortable temperatures make it an ideal time for outdoor adventures and sightseeing in Vietnam. In fact, we think it’s one of the best times to visit Vietnam. Expect cooler temperatures in the north, warm sunshine in the central region, and tropical temperatures in the south.

It’s just after the long, summer school holidays in Australia ends, too, so there’s less demand for flights and accommodation from Aussie families travelling compared to January. This means lower prices on both.

While it doesn’t every year, Tet (Lunar New Year) often falls within February, and it’s one of Vietnam’s most important national holidays (if not the most important). So, if you’re visiting in Feb, you’ll get amongst the festivities, including fireworks and a buzzing local atmosphere.

Is February a cheap or expensive time to visit Vietnam?

February is generally a mid-range to slightly more expensive time to visit Vietnam. While everyday costs like food, local transport and attractions remain very affordable year-round, prices for flights and accommodation can increase around Tet (Lunar New Year) due to high domestic and international demand. However, it doesn’t have the same peak-season holiday demand driving prices up as December of January.

Weather in Vietnam in February

The weather varies depending on where in Vietnam you’ll be travelling. Nonetheless, the weather in Vietnam is generally comfortable. The north (including Hanoi and Halong Bay) is cool and dry, with temperatures around 15–22°C; central Vietnam is warm and sunny, at 22–26°C; and the south stays hot and dry, with temperatures around 26–32°C.
