New Jetstar flights from Newcastle to Hobart are going for just $59

Newcastle residents no longer need to drive down to Sydney or catch a connection to get to Tasmania for cheap. Jetstar has announced a new direct service between Newcastle and Hobart. Of course, this comes with an introductory flight price too.

How much will Jetstar’s Newcastle-to-Hobart flights be?

To celebrate the launch, fares from Hobart to Newcastle start at just AU$59 each way.

By comparison, Virgin Australia (which also operates the route) currently charges between $189 and $252 each way. That’s more than three times the price of these new Jetstar fares.

When will flights from Newcastle to Hobart begin?

Available during the peak travel season, flights will be departing between 2 December 2025 and 21 April 2026.

How often will flights depart?

The Newcastle-Hobart route will operate three times per week, on the following schedule:

Departures from 2 December 2025 to 28 March 2026:

Newcastle to Hobart (JQ489): Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, departing at 3:25pm and arriving at 5:25pm

Hobart to Newcastle (JQ488): Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, departing at 6:05pm and arriving at 8:10pm.

Departures from 31 March to 21 April, 2026:

Newcastle to Hobart (JQ489): Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, departing at 12:35pm and arriving at 2:35pm

Hobart to Newcastle (JQ488): Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, departing at 3:15pm and arriving at 5:20pm.

The flight time from Newcastle to Hobart is 2 hours, while the return flight is 2 hours, 5 minutes.
