Travelling doesn’t have to cost a fortune. The trick is knowing when the best sales roll around and being ready to book before the good stuff goes. From EOFY specials to weekly happy hours and Black Friday blowouts, there are plenty of chances to save big on flights, stays, and packages.

Here are the travel sales worth circling in your diary, plus a few tips so you’re ready to pounce.

End of Financial Year (EOFY) sales

In Australia, EOFY isn’t just about tax time. From mid-June to early July, travel brands slash prices to keep bookings rolling. Flights, hotels, and packages are heavily discounted, and you’ll often see bundles that give more value than booking each part separately.

Families and groups in particular jump on these sales, so the cheapest options go quickly. Have a budget set, shortlist your destinations, and get in early.

Black Friday sales

No longer just for in-store offers on in tech, fashion and cars, Black Friday travel deals are getting better and better each year.

Expect to see coupon codes for discounted hotels, super-cheap flights and plenty of freebies thrown in to sweeten the deals.

Airline happy hours and flash sales

Virgin Australia’s weekly Happy Hour and Jetstar’s Friday Fare Frenzy are standouts. Every Thursday between 4pm and 11pm AEST, discounted fares drop on selected routes. Deals don’t last long, and seats are limited, so it pays to set a reminder.

Qantas and other airlines run flash sales throughout the year too. These pop up with little notice and can disappear just as fast. Signing up for alerts means you don’t have to sit refreshing your screen—you’ll get the news straight to your phone or inbox.

Major retail sales that include travel deals

Some of the biggest shopping days of the year have become just as good for travel bargains as they are for snagging a new TV:

Boxing Day (26 Dec) and New Year sales: Expect big clearances on flights, hotels, and packages.
Black Friday and Cyber Monday (late Nov - early Dec): Massive discounts on international flights and hotels, with many airlines and platforms joining in.
Click Frenzy Travel (August) and Click Frenzy Main Event (November): Homegrown Aussie events where airlines and travel sites slash prices.
Other retail promos: eBay Plus Weekend, Afterpay Day, and similar events sometimes feature travel vouchers or discounted fares.

Spotlight: Jetstar’s biggest sales

For a low-cost Aussie airline, Jetstar really punches above its weight when it comes to sales. Few carriers pack as many discount events into their calendar, making it one of the best airlines to watch if you love a bargain.

Return for free sales: Offered several times a year, this deal gives you a free return flight when you buy an outbound ticket. Popular routes like Japan often appear, with return fares from Australia for around AU$380.
Friday fare frenzies: Every Friday, Jetstar drops fares from noon to 8pm. Some weekends, the sale runs until midnight Monday. Routes change often, but there’s usually a mix of domestic and international discounts.
Aussie sale: Timed around Australia Day, this event drops fares across the country. Think Darwin, the Red Centre, Tasmania, or the Great Barrier Reef.
Jetstar birthday sale: Each May or June, Jetstar marks its birthday with special prices. In 2025, its 21st birthday sale offered AU$38 fares on selected routes.
Club Jetstar: Membership (AU$65 a year) gets you early access to sales, members-only fares, cheaper baggage and seat selection, and a Jetstar Hotels voucher. If you fly often, the savings stack up.

Extra ways to save

Beyond the big names, Traveloka runs its own seasonal promos. Think winter specials, limited-time app offers, and bundle deals combining flights, hotels, and attractions.

It’s worth checking cruise packages, day tours, and local attractions too. These often get discounted during wider sales events, so you can plan more of your trip for less.

Traveloka’s Monthly Flash sales

We didn’t think there were enough travel sales on the calendar already, so we decided to add 12 (yes, 12!) more. Each month we’ll be discounted dozens of hotels across South East Asia and beyond. Check it out each month here.

Tips for grabbing the best deals

The best sales don’t hang around, so a bit of prep goes a long way:

Plan ahead: Know your destination and budget before the sale starts.
Stay flexible: Flexible dates and routes often mean cheaper fares.
Mark your diary: Sales like Virgin Happy Hour happen weekly, but most big ones only come once or twice a year.
Turn on alerts: Download the Traveloka app or sign up for emails so you don’t miss limited-time offers.
Move fast: The lowest fares and room rates are usually in very limited supply. If you spot a price that works for you, book it before it’s gone.
