It turns out popular doesn’t need to mean pricey. Google has just announced its search trends for 2025, and three of the top 10 searched-for travel destinations are budget-friendly, Southeast Asian hotpots.

Unsurprisingly, Bali made the list, along with Phuket and Singapore. And we wanted to share just how to visit these destinations without breaking the bank. In fact, you can visit each of them – flights, accommodation and all – for less than $1,000 per person (based on twin-share).

We’ve used the lowest-priced flights we’re finding at the moment and some well-reviewed hotels (nothing below an 8/10 by real Traveloka users) to show you just how affordable hot-spot holidays can actually be.

Bali

From endless stretches of sand to thick, monkey-filled jungle, street eats to world-class restaurants, there’s a very good reason Bali is one of Australia’s favourite holiday destinations. And we sure know we don’t need to sell Bali to you, Aussies. So, let’s get to it. Here’s how to plan a weeklong holiday there for as low as AU$390 per person.

Flights: Sydney - AU$580 return | Melbourne - AU$489  | Perth - AU$295 | Brisbane - AU$639 | Adelaide - AU$620

Hotels: 3-star: AU$95 per person | 4-star - AU$186 per person | 5-star - AU$207 per person

3-star hotel pick - Pondok Ayu Shanti: Villas with rooms within steps of a pool and views of lush, green rice paddies. It doesn’t get much more Baliese than this.
4-star hotel pick - The Sinesta Jimbaran: An inviting pool and a rooftop that’s practically made for sunsets, this resort is quiet and has wonderful staff, according to reviews.
5-star hotel pick - Wyndham Tamansari Jivva Resort: Isolated and on a unique black sand beach, this is the side of Bali that most people miss.

Phuket

The gateway to Thailand for many, Phuket offers countless beaches, colourful temples, incredible nightlife and island hopping galore. No matter what kind of traveller you are, young or old, budget or bougie, there's something in phuket for you. And 7-night holidays there can cost as low as AU$630 per person. Here's howl

5-star hotel pick - The Beachfront Hotel: Waterfront in Rawai, this luxe property has a killer pool with the option to get a pool-access room from just AU$54 per night.

Singapore

Most people don't think "Singapore" and "cheap" belong in the same sentence, but we beg to differ. If you're happy to fly budget and eat amongst the locals, it can actually be one of Asia's most affordable big cities to visit. There's plenty of free things to do here too, from wandering around Gardens by the Bay to hiking the monkey-laden trails near MacRitchie Reservoir. Here's how to spend a week in the city for as low as AU$642 per person, no dorm rooms needed.

Flights: Sydney - AU$485 return | Melbourne - AU$588 return | Perth - AU$348 return | Brisbane - AU$740 return | Adelaide - AU$646 return

Hotels: 3-star: AU$294 | 4-star: AU$ | 5-star: AU$641

3-star hotel pick - The Snooze Hotel Bugis: It's onveniently located in Bugis, which has plenty of shopping, hawker stalls and easy access to other parts of Singapore via the MRT.
4-star hotel pick - Hotel Boss: Also located in Bugis, here you'll find larger rooms and more facilities, like a pool and a gym.
5 star hotel pick - Citadines Science Park: If you're not too fussy abobut where in Singapore you're staying (it's not all that big, after all), you can get a 5-star stay for less than $200 per night here and still be within reach of public transport.
