Tribhuvan International Airport is Nepal's only international gateway, sitting right at the edge of Kathmandu with the Himalayas as a backdrop. Compare airlines flying to Kathmandu (KTM) and set a Price Alert on Traveloka before you book.
KTM handled close to 9.5 million passengers in 2024, up 12% on the year before, as Nepal's tourism and labour-migration traffic continues to recover. It's the country's busiest airport by a wide margin, and the only way in for international travellers heading to Kathmandu, the Everest region or onward domestic connections.
KTM splits cleanly into international long-haul and Nepal's domestic mountain network.
KTM is the hub for Nepal's flag carrier Nepal Airlines and Himalaya Airlines. International carriers include Qatar Airways, Emirates, Turkish Airlines, IndiGo and Air India, among around 30 airlines in total. Domestic flights run on Buddha Air, Yeti Airlines and Saurya Airlines.
KTM has two terminals around 500 m apart, linked by a free shuttle bus: the International Terminal for all overseas flights, and a separate Domestic Terminal for Nepal's internal network. A larger international terminal is planned, though as of mid-2026 construction had not yet begun.
Kathmandu's city centre is only a few kilometres away. Pre-paid taxi counters are the standard option; there's no rail link, and traffic can add time to the short distance, so allow more time than the distance alone suggests.
Expect duty-free shopping, restaurants and cafes, free Wi-Fi, lounges and information desks throughout the terminal.
