Muan International Airport has been closed to scheduled commercial flights since December 2024, following a runway accident. As of this page's last update, commercial services have not resumed and no confirmed reopening date has been announced. If you're planning travel to this region, check the latest status before booking and consider Gwangju Airport as an alternative gateway in the meantime.
Muan International Airport (IATA: MWX) opened in 2007 in South Jeolla Province, built to serve Gwangju, Mokpo and Naju. Before the current suspension, it had built up a growing low-cost-carrier network connecting the region to destinations across Japan, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, China and the Philippines.
Prior to the suspension, Muan hosted South Korean low-cost carriers including Jin Air, Jeju Air and Air Busan.
Muan has a single passenger terminal, currently not handling scheduled commercial services.
While Muan remains closed to commercial flights, travellers to South Jeolla and Gwangju can consider Gwangju Airport as an alternative gateway to the region.
