Puerto Princesa International Airport (PPS) is the main gateway to Palawan, the long island province in the western Philippines. It serves the city of Puerto Princesa and is the usual arrival point for visitors heading to the Puerto Princesa Underground River, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Travellers bound for El Nido and Port Barton also often start here before continuing by road.
The airport is very close to town. The terminal is roughly 2 km from the city centre, so a tricycle ride into Puerto Princesa takes around ten minutes. The runway is shared with Antonio Bautista Air Base, a Philippine Air Force facility.
The current passenger terminal opened in 2017, replacing a much smaller building. It spans two levels and can seat a large number of waiting passengers. Lounges are available, including one run by Philippine Airlines. The single runway has an instrument landing system that supports night and low-visibility flights, and the aprons can take wide-body aircraft.
Most flights are domestic. Cebu Pacific and Philippine Airlines link Puerto Princesa with Manila, and other routes connect it with cities such as Cebu, Clark, Iloilo and Davao. Search your dates to see the current timetable, as routes can vary by season.
The Puerto Princesa Underground River, where boats glide into a limestone cave system that meets the sea, is the headline sight. Permits for the tour are limited, so book ahead. Honda Bay is a popular island-hopping trip from the city, and the baywalk and local markets in town are good for an evening stroll.
