The winter months, from June to August, are the low season in Tasmania and are generally when you’d find the cheapest flights.
Prices may increase for flights to Hobart during Dark Mofo, which is held in the city in mid-June.

You can also fly with Rex, but there are limited routes available and fewer connection opportunities to major cities other than Melbourne.

No passport is needed when flying from an Australian city to an a Tasmanian airport. Tasmania is part of Australia, so you don’t need a passport to travel between the two. You will need photo ID though, such as a drivers licence.
