It was a pleasure to stay here. Just a few steps into the South Bank, close to the South Brisbane train station. I came from Indonesia to study in Brisbane, bringing 2 luggages with 30 kg each. From Brisbane airport, I used the air-train to the station and it was still accessible to walk through to the hotel. The room was spacious, and the staff was friendly 👍🏻.

More about hotels in Brisbane

Brisbane has a little something for everyone; world-class museums line the shore in South Bank, tranquil greenery fills the City Botanic Gardens on the CBD's southern tip and there's plenty of delectable eats at the Howard Smith Wharves. And for those looking for an escape from the city, too, it's within easy each of the hinterland, Sunshine Coast's beaches and the picturesque Moreton, North Stradbroke and Bribie islands.

No matter what you're coming to Brisbane for, there's just as much variation in its accommodation as there is in things to do in the Queensland capital.

What's the best area of Brisbane to stay in?

Brisbane is such a big city, so if it’s your first time, it might be a bit daunting to choose from the many hotels in Brisbane. Brisbane hotels are plenty and can cater to your budget. If you’re willing to splurge, there are luxurious hotels that will keep you pampered. Backpackers and travellers on a budget can check out hostels, which are cheaper and flexible.

Staying in Brisbane CBD vs South Bank vs Fortitude Valley

Deciding on the perfect place to stay in Brisbane can be difficult. One of the toughest choices for many travellers is picking between Brisbane CBD, South Bank, and Fortitude Valley. They are all very close to each other.

Here's how we'd decide:

  • Brisbane CBD is probably your best bet if you're travelling for business and looking to do a touch of sightseeing on the side. This way you're going to be close to the office in the morning.
  • Southbank is great for families and traditional sightseers and for those hoping to get to as many museums as they can during their stay. It's just a short walk to the Queensland Museum, Gallery of Modern Art and Queensland Performing Arts Centre.
  • Fortitude Valley is the go-to for foodies and those looking for great nightlife options. You're close to the Howard Smith Wharves and popular dining spots like Agnes, Restaurant Dan Arnold, Same Same and Essa

Cheap accommodation in Brisbane

We love finding affordable accommodation without skimping on quality, and luckily finding cheap accommodation in Brisbane is doable. With some research, and these top tips, you can find great deals on hotels in the city.

  • Stay at hotels on the city fringe, and not right in the heart of Brisbane CBD or overlooking the Brisbane River at Southbank. Accommodations just outside the city centre tend to be much cheaper, but are still close to public transport. If you don't mind a bit more of a commute, stay a bit further out and you can save even more.
  • Consider private rooms in hostels. Many come with their own en-suites, too, making it feel like a hotel stay for up to half the price.
  • Use Traveloka's simple filters. We can easily add price caps or sort options by the cheapest prices. This way, you won't have to sift through hundreds of bad choices to find your perfect stay.
  • Avoid travelling during peak seasons. Skip trips to Brisbane around Christmas, New Year's, long weekends or school holidays when hotel prices rise.

A few budget-friendly options that real Traveloka users have ranked highly include George Williams Hotel, Brisbane Quarters and Soho Brisbane.

How to get to your Brisbane hotel from the airport

You will probably arrive at Brisbane International Airport. It is one of Australia’s largest airports. It is also a good access point to the rest of the country. From the airport, there are several ways to reach Brisbane’s city centre:

  • The Airtrain. It takes just 20 minutes to get to the city. Trains arrive every 15 minutes.
  • Door-to-door shuttles. The airport recommends the Con-x-ion shuttle bus service for roundtrip transfers.
  • Rideshare or private taxis. Cars are available 24/7 outside the airport and cost around $50 for a one-way trip.
