For a short and affordable stay the Clarendon was perfect. It’s proximity to the South Melbourne cafes, shopping and markets, and the city makes it ideal for anyone wanting to be out of the busy CBD. The tram to the city is across the road and takes about 10 minutes. It was mostly very quiet but there was neighborhood music one night - fortunately our ear plugs cancelled most of the noise out.

The building has a bar on the ground floor and the rooftop, not unexpected. However I am told the hotel business is separate to the bars. Result- kept awake due to loud music WHICH CONTINUED AFTER THE BARS CLOSED. Basically the bar staff couldn't be bothered turning off the sound system when they closed for the night, so the hotel customers were kept awake all night by doof doof.

The room was great, clean and spacious with a good shower. Air conditioning was not very effective. Reception is only manned for short periods and there is a telephone number to contact. Unfortunately, not having an Australian phone this was not possible. They did not have WhatsApp to contact them on WiFi. Rooms are only services on request and so we had to physically see someone to ask for this. I feel that rooms should be refreshed daily unless clients request this not to happen. I do not expect sheets and towels to be changed daily but I also do not book a hotel to make my own bed and clean the bathroom. I do that everyday ant home. Also, there was nothing to say that on Monday and Tuesday the restaurant is closed. This was a slight problem for us as that is when we stayed. There was also not a lot close by that was open but we managed. Overall, I would stay here again but not on a Monday or Tuesday.

Great location in South Melbourne! Responsive service though not on-site. Comfy bed & clean linen. However, they really should seek out other smaller single use amenities (shampoo, conditioner etc) or more permanent alternatives so they don't feel the need to reuse them or not replace them (mine were used). The towels were also not the best, however were sufficient. Carpets need a deep clean, and some areas need additional dusting, however I have a high standard in the regard. For the price paid, it was a good stay.
