Service was great and property as expected for 3.5 star

Check-in was a disaster. Online checkin doesn’t mean you don’t have to stand in a line forever! They start queuing in the HOT lobby at 1:30pm and even being in line at 1:50, WE didn’t get out last room until after 5:30pm. We missed our PAID tour. They offer you a meal voucher for their less-than-satisfactory restaurant as compensation for waiting. If you’ve had a very long flight and are looking forward to a restful stay, the checking ordeal is probably not for you. Unless maybe you know someone and they bring your check in documents to you as you sit in a recliner in the lobby—while the rest of us hot, thirsty travelers look on. Otherwise our stay was nice. Need more shade umbrellas in the upstairs balcony/bar/pool area.

Amazing hotel, great location but the reception staff were not good. They were completely miserable and unfriendly or willing to help on every single interaction. It was the most unwelcome I had ever felt upon checking in and that continued through every single time I had to speak to them. Such a shame. Everything else was great, but the front desk staff bring everything down.

Great property. Room was clean and a great size. Location is amazing. Check-in/check-out can take a while depending on how busy it is. Otherwise everyone was attentive. Would stay here again!

Overall, the stay was decent. You might need to exercise some patience with this hotel, though. Pros: - Close to the beach - Lots of shops and restaurants nearby - Rooftop pool - A well-equipped gym with a nice view - Friendly service, for the most part Cons: - Service can be inconsistent and sometimes slow. Example 1: Our in-room Nespresso machine wasn’t working, so we requested a replacement. We waited a day, nothing. Asked again, waited another day, still nothing. Finally, on the third try, we got a replacement, but no replacement pods (the ones we had were wasted when we tested the broken machine). Example 2: We booked the room for two people, but when the dirty towels were removed, we only got one new towel. This happened both times our room was cleaned, which just felt odd for a room meant for two. The second time they took our hand towel but didn’t replace it. It’s a small thing, but when you have to call for basic items that should’ve been provided, it starts to feel like there’s a lack of attention to detail. - No ceiling ventilation in the bathroom. This might be common in Brazil, not sure, but it’s worth mentioning since it was pretty humid, and the AC didn’t reach the bathroom (even though the room was small), so it always felt warm and muggy in there. - WiFi was spotty and really bad in the room. - Both times the room was cleaned, the toilet wasn’t properly cleaned.

Hello, we have to ask several times during one day to make up our room. Staff on reception said "will do asap" and after 4 hours - nothing. Long check in, options early check in doesn't work even when they have available rooms. They block deposit on my card and to unblock i had to mail Hotel after two days, however during check out reception said that it will be unblocked immediately. Overall breakfast is good, rooms are big and has all nessesary, staff are friendly

I liked it, the internet wasn’t working well at times and staff can be very slow as the hotel was always busy. It’s nice and recommended for the value what you pay.

Solid hotel! Reasonable price for location and amenities

The hotel was great. The only downside for me was the small clunky lifts and the poor service at lunch time in the main restaurant.

Great Location and Friendly Staff, but Some Inconveniences I had a pleasant stay at this hotel—the location is excellent, and the staff is friendly and accommodating. The breakfast was also quite good, offering a nice start to the day. However, I couldn’t give a full five-star rating for a couple of reasons. First, the check-in time is quite late. Many international flights, including ours with Delta, arrive in Rio around 5 AM, but the hotel’s check-in isn’t until 3 PM. This leaves guests stuck waiting with their luggage for hours, which isn’t ideal after a long flight. Offering an earlier check-in option would make a big difference. Second, while the hotel does have a pool, it’s quite small. If you’re hoping for a lively poolside experience or any sort of pool party, this might not be the place for that. Overall, it’s a solid choice with great service, but a few adjustments could make it even better!

Overall good stay, friendly staff, clean room, good breakfast but pool area is way too small and crowded. Rates were decent when compared to other similar hotels

Didn’t like that there was only 1 chair in the room and not complimentary water bottles like all the other hotels we stayed.

The location of the property is prime! Right across the street from the beach. There is a quaint bar to the left of the property upon exit that serves delicious empanadas. The staff is warm and helpful; even the ones who don't speak English. We stayed in the double twin bed room which is where things were dissatisfactory. The room was dated with scoffed laminate flooring, mildew growth in the shower and a persistent mildew smell throughout the small quarters. Another thing to beware of is gym staff by the name of Sebastian who claims to be a PT and masseuse. PT he is definitely but a masseuse he is not! The "massage" services he offers are horrible! Use the female for your massage needs. She is great!

Right across the beach, walking distance to Ipanema beach and town, lots of restaurants.

The welcome and helpfulness of the staff is first class. They never gave the impression that a request is too much bother. We had requests for an extra chair and hangers and this was no problem, both provided promptly - as was the iron and a room clean. We had a situation with a wallet left in a taxi and the staff were empathetic, doing all they could to help locate the driver...and enquiring the following day as to whether it was found. The facilites are well maintained and the common areas execeptional in cleanliness and tidyness. I would recommend without hesitation

The Grand Mercure is a great hotel. Comfortable, clean, with an amazing staff. If I ever return to Rio, I will return to the Grand Mercure.
