What Guests Say About Their Stay

Hotel Art in Senj is quieter than many tourist places in Croatia, which is just right for me. The view of the bay from some rooms and the Hotel dining room is fabulous. Breakfast is simple yet satisfying, with fresh cooked eggs to order, fresh bread, and a selection of bead toppings. The rooms are simple yet clean, and since it's in a historic building, everything functions well considering. A short walk takes you into the old town for excellent meals, and in the opposite direction, to the beach. Boat tours to the islands are my favorite activity while there. Hotel Art has a friendly and welcoming multi-lingual staff. I'll stay there again!

The location is right on the harbour and beach, looking out over the beautiful Adriatic. Could not be bettered! And the room was clean and comfortable, much more like a three than a two-star standard. But the main thing was the lovely kind staff. I had a couple of problems (difficulties with my phone and in accessing my emails, not because of them, the hotel WiFi is fine, but because my naughty little boy decided to do a factory reset on my phone moments before I needed to use it!). The ladies at the hotel were so kind, let me make a phone call on their phone and use thier office computer to access my emails. And they entertained my little boy (who has special needs) while I was sorting things out, playing with him and giving him cchocate and a colouring book, so kind! A very good experience all round! PS if you arrive in this town late at night, as I did, and all the restaurants have stopped serving food, ask people for the pizza takeaway, which is open late and makes lovely fresh homemade pizzas!

On Hotels.com it states that the rooms have air conditioning. Not only do they not have air conditioning but the ceiling fan didn’t work either. The Wi-Fi didn’t work at all, the shower head was broken, the bed sheets and towels were threadbare, and breakfast was definitely not worth the extra $20. They allowed people to park their cars in such a way that it was very difficult to got our car out in the morning. The receptionist in the morning didn’t speak any English so she was no help to us.

Unfortunately it was a 38° day and there was no air conditioning in the room. We requested a fan which was extremely wobbly and fell over a few times. The toilet didn't flush as the push button and cistern was broken. We mentioned this to the owner who gave us 2 glasses of slivovitz to compensate. She was very apologetic. The bed was hard and uncomfortable. We were very disappointed. The area is lovely and plenty of good restaurants however.

There are two hotels in Senj - this one and one other. It looked a bit run-down from the outside, but the location was good and it suited our needs. The hotel is right next to the water but it backs up to a big parking lot, so you might hear road/car noise through the night. There was no AC in the room, just a ceiling fan, but we were fine with just the fan and the window open to the ocean air. We got a real metal key for the room in this hotel, and you had to lock yourself into the room in order to lock the door. In case of a fire or emergency, this action is problematic from a life safety standpoint, since there is no other way out. This is a no-frills kind of place - mismatched old towels and some utilitarian furniture - but it was charming, in its own way. The front desk personnel were helpful and recommended several local restaurants. There is a Super Konzum (grocery store) within walking distance for snacks and water, or picking up items for dinner. Senj is blessed/cursed with the bura winds, like Karlobag and Seline, so wear a hat or give up on your hair looking like anything other than a windswept disaster. Fortress Nehaj was incredible and deserves a long visit. There are a ton of tourists passing through this area, but it's worth more than a quick stop on the way to somewhere else.

The staff at Hotel Art were lovely, and very attentive! They allowed us to check out a little later, which meant we could shower and get ready properly before our flight - this was very much appreciated! They also managed to find us an iron, even though there wasn't one in the room, so went out of their way. The room had an amazing view of the sea, and it was so nice to sleep to the sound of the waves. The only thing I would change, is that there was no air-con in our room, so it was really a bit too hot to sleep in, and the fan was not powerful enough to cool down the room...other than that it was a great place!
