What Guests Say About Their Stay

This is exactly the sort of experience I seek when visiting the UK. It's an "only in England" experience. From the moment I arrived until the moment I left I was absolutely enraptured. The proprietors ran out to greet me to show me a better, safer place to park my motorcycle. They checked me in, showed me to my room, and have me the rundown on local dining options. My room was quiet and comfortable. The bathroom had an ENORMOUS tub. Their gardens, which are clearly a labor of love, are astounding! Another plus for gearheads like me is that they are enthusiasts of unusual sports cars, including building kit cars (e.g., Caterham 7), and serve in a leadership role for a local car club, and also serve as a local historian for their area of the Welsh Marches. Such energy! More flexible around what is included in a full English breakfast than I've ever experienced. Downsides? Well, the stairs are steep. And, if your preference is for the vanilla experience of a Holiday Inn, this probably isn't for you. If on the other hand, you travel to meet people and learn new things, especially if you have any appreciation for any of what I've described, this might be just the experience you're seeking. I, for one, plan to come back.

Lovely setting for what is becoming a rarity in a real B&B. Our hosts, Yolanda and Roger treated us as part of the family and looked after us really well. We were invited to look at what I would describe as a showcase garden, and felt as if we were in a manor park! The breakfast was copious and as interesting as you like, with a very varied menu, including local produce and good home cooking. It was a pleasure to have met such a couple who are kind and generous characters, that have a wealth of knowledge and experiences!

I rarely leave negative reviews, but my stay at Brownhill House was so disappointing that I feel a responsibility to warn others. Even before arrival, the communication was poor. I emailed twice about my vegan dietary needs (which their website says they can cater for) and received either no reply or answers that ignored my questions. Check‑in was the worst I’ve experienced. When I asked again about vegan options, the host, Yoland, made several rude comments, including “We don’t have plastic bread,” “I thought you’d bring your own,” and “You ask strange questions.” She also emphasised that they use “loads of butter and drippings,” saying oil “won’t be nice.” I wasn’t shown where breakfast was served, just taken to my room. The bins had no bags, and the bathroom bin contained used tissues. Breakfast on the first morning was very small, with warm juice, and I felt too uncomfortable to ask about ingredients. The second morning, with a regular guest present, the breakfast was noticeably larger and the juice cold. Conversations at breakfast were pleasant, but the inconsistency was obvious. The building itself is charming, with a cosy room, deep bath, books, and thoughtful extras. Check‑out was fine. However, none of this outweighs the unacceptable check‑in and dismissive attitude toward dietary needs. If you value basic courtesy and respectful communication, I strongly recommend staying elsewhere. Had to largely reduce review due to character 1500 limit

The property had amazing gardens. The house itself was a bit dated, not that we minded, but it had everything we needed and the host was so helpful. Lovely breakfasts with home made jam went down a treat

Check in stopped at 20:00 … after 20 minutes driving up and down unlit country lanes to eventually find the place… I was refused access as I were past the 20:00 check in time. A very rude, condescending and disrespectful attitude from the property owner … disgusting

We really enjoyed the warm, homely hospitality at this wonderfully traditional B & B. Our bed was super comfortable. The Wif-fi was excellent. In the morning Yolande cooked our breakfast as we chatted. Absolutely delicious. Pancakes to die for. Recommend.
