I noticed something worrying this time. The security lock on the outside door to access the hostel is broken and it's simply left open all night long. Reception is not manned for 8 hours after midnight so anyone can wander in. In fact, someone did - my roommate, who works till two in the morning saw a guy trying all the doors of the dorms with an old key card. He must have been a former guest. He didn't get in anywhere as the cards stop working at ten on the morning of departure. Another resident who must be long term told me the front door has been open for weeks at night. The electronic access has not been fixed. However, I have to report that new security doors with electronic access are being installed on the landings meaning that dorms will only be accessible with a card and a card will also be needed to get into the individual dormitories. It's not before time. I do think though that it's a serious deficiency not to have staff, even asleep in the reception office, available during the night. For people staying here and who are hungry, turn right out of the alleyway the hostel is in into Mike End Road and choose the first curry place on the right. They do very substantial meal deals for a fiver. In addition Tesco have reduced-price food on sale from 5pm onwards, ideal for sandwiches. Unfortunately many of the more filling sell-by options can't be used as there is no cooking at the hostel. I After all this, have I rebooked? Well, yes I have.

You get what you pay for. The place is basic with barely any facilities - it's just a bed for the night. However, there is plenty around the area to do and see and cheap markets and little ethnic restaurants. If you can get out and about during the day and early evening, this place is fine. If you're stuck indoors, all you have is the internet, which has a reasonable Wi-Fi signal.

I was in London for an extended period of medical treatment. I decided to stay in a hostel for reasons of economy . It's fine, as long as your roommates are nice. I have been lucky so far and because of that, I've rebooked for a further 3 weeks. I'll probably extend as long as there have been no problems. The hostel is hard to find - it's down a side entrance and there is no sign, until you get to the door, where there's a tiny plaque. Booking has to be done online with a card, presumably to keep.dossers, drunks and junkies out. The 4 bed dorms, which I stayed in, are rather cramped. There's just space for a bit of luggage and the sink, as well as the bunk beds. There is no common room or resident's kitchen. The showers are pretty clean all the time. The lavatories get a bit untidy though as the day wears on. The local area is great for cheap food, both sit-in meals and from stalls.

This was very poor. Apart from v nice girl at reception. Front door is just open. Always. Dorm doors make a hi pitch squeal if open for 3 secs. My dorm was woken and QUIZZED by staff because of an unregistered "guest" and a stoned individual yacking. Not secure, no kitchen, no reception post midnite.
