A great spot to explore the Cotswolds from. A highlight was the cows right outside on the common. Poached eggs were slightly overdone at breakfast but the omelette was fantastic.

Traditional old Inn, with fabulous and helpful staff. Some rooms (we stayed at the cottage. top floor) were a bit tired looking. Nonetheless functional and clean.

We stayed at the inn for one night, and had a wonderful welcome from James . The breakfast was superb, as was the evening meal. Our room was comfortable. The Amberley is a beautiful building, set an a lovely location. We would stay again since this was a very restful location. The team at the Amberley are absolutely wonderful. Even tapped our door to remind us to come down for breakfast before we missed it. This is going the extra mile, as far as I'm concerned. I would go back for the breakfast, it was lovely. Lovely stay in a beautiful location. Our room (2) had dual aspect windows, beautiful views, and to top it off, a four poster bed. We ate in the bar area in the evening and there was plenty of choice on the menu. Waitress was chatty and professional.

Lovely atmosphere with old world charm. However, In places the decor was tired and redecoration was required. The public rooms seemed to be not quite fully furnished or finished and somewhat bare. Whilst the staff were at all times pleasant and polite no person made any effort to engage me in conversation. As a lone traveller that meant I eat all my meals in silence in rooms that had no background music playing. It was a lonely experience. Several times I had to wait over ten minutes at the front desk for staff to appear and provide service.

The staff were lovely and the location is wonderful. But the room we had is very small for a double and the bathroom was icy cold. The electric towel rail helped but, in early January, it was just not enough. That said, we'll go back in the summer.

The Amberley Inn has bags of character if it is a little faded in appearance. Its situation is excellent with views over open country. The reception was friendly, rooms were clean, breakfast was well-cooked if the ancilliary elements were rather thin. With investment, this could prove a real star and could command much higher prices.
