The Fox and Hounds

My husband and I stayed here a couple of weeks ago. The pods were clean but tiny and so warm inside. The car park from the pods to the toilets were loose gravel and on the morning of leaving the accommodation I slipped and fell on the gravel. On the same morning a car was trying to pull out and skidded backwards trying to get out. Not very practical!! I sent photos to the hotel asking for compensation and was told a straight no!! Apparently they have never had any issues with this which I really don’t believe as myself and my husband both nearly slipped a few times during our stay. I would hate to see an elderly person fall and have a more serious injury but they didn’t think it was an issue, just beware. Nice pub food though

Courteous staff and good food

Bar was great, friendly staff and locals. Dinner was great both nights we ate there and really good cooked breakfast to start the day. Recommend as a place to stay to explore the area.

Lovely room lovely area

Helpful friendly staff, lovely towels and nice bedding, comfy beds. Great breakfast, the only down side no local transport taxis for example.

The manager Alan was very helpful and nothing was to much trouble

Food was disgusting. Apparently this is not the norm their usual chef was off and they had problems with the oven . We did receive a 20 % discount for the food. Old building which is lovely but can hear toilet flushing in another room . The room was clean and very small . The bed was hard.

Had a great time. Comfortable room and great food.

Lovely country pub

No heating in our room, no hot water,

Stayed here as attending a wedding at Danby castle . It was quiet , bedroom lovely and clean , staff very friendly and accommodating, breakfast delicious.. no fault whatsoever. Would definitely recommend 🙂

Really beautiful and peaceful place

We had a lovely stay at this lovely little hotel. Staff were very welcoming. Room 8 was biggerthanexpected. Nice view . Good facilities. Food was nice, breakfast was really good. Would visit again.

This is our second stay at the Fox and Hounds. The staff are very welcoming. The food is excellent, with an extensive choice available. The room was clean, and well presented. There was a good supply of tea bags, coffee, hot chocolate and bottled water, plus shower gel, shampoo and conditioner in the bathroom. Very dog friendly too!

Lovely spacious room and friendly, helpful staff. Beautiful location with train station nearby. Great breakfast. Our only complaint was that rooms at the far end of the hotel had zero Wi-Fi, although I'm sure this will be fixed soon.

Good old dash end service excellent staff and a warm welcome

We were shown to our room which we booked a superior room and on entering it there was lots of blue bottle flies everywhere in total 11 of them so we had to get them all out of the room then when they have cleaned the room they had left all the rubbish in the bin from the previous occupants plus they had put the bathroom rubbish in it as well plus there was poo in the toilet. The Wi-Fi didn’t work in the room or even the rooms next to us as we heard someone else complaining about it. Lack of routers seems to be the problem, food wasn’t bad but had better for the price they are charging ie home made pie had pasty top as thick as a doorstep and the burger was the smallest burger I’ve ever had although it was tasty and it was supposed to be in a locally baked bread bun but it was just a small bun you would get from Tesco in a pack of 6. Didn’t top up the tea and coffee condiments properly had to go and ask for sugar from the bar and didn’t leave any bottled water on our last night of stay. The bathroom was nice but the shower screen on the bath is too small as when you have a shower the bathroom floor get soaked. They rate themselves as 4* B&B but really it’s a just gets a 3* and only just gets that. Would we stay again, well no not for the price as it’s not cheap and when you pay for a superior room you expect more.

Wonderful stay, in a perfect location. The rooms were an excellent all the staff were very helpful. Emma is a star.
