Nick's Pension offered a rare combination of being in the middle of Ubud, and the spacious comforts of a retreat far from the madding crowd. Its location is simply perfect, with exits at the two ends of the property leading to the main streets of Ubud. Within the property itself is an oasis of lovely vistas and fountains and meditation spots and rice paddies. It's an extraordinary spot. The villas themselves are charming, yet containing all the creature comforts a spoilt Westerner needs, such as air conditioning and proper showers. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.

Liked the property. Location was bit tricky to get to for a taxi driver . It has a marked path/access to Monkey Forrest Rd from its property. Be careful to not go down that path during monsoon/rain times, it is very slippery. I had a fall twice on the slops leading to the main road. Suggest use the main road to get to the Monkey Forrest rd. Staff were excellent and assisted with our luggage when we left as I had fall and could not carry my luggage. Once I left keys in my bag and locked it. They got a locksmith for us quickly for no charge. Good service. Be careful of the food in the front restaurant. Fruits (like strawberry) can be tricky. Overall food was good also. Well maintained property and green.

Stayed for 5 nights. The first 3 nights were A-MAZING! Bed wasn't the most comfortable but easily overlooked. Order the included Indonesian breakfast... they know how to do that much better than the American breakfasts. We had cold water the first day, but after a call to the front desk, they turned on the propane to the water heater for the room. On night 4 we had asked for a couple extra pillows. We didn't notice them until night 5 (because we got in late on night 4) but the new pillows they brought us were loaded with bedbugs. YUCK. Totally unacceptable and I think my last two nights should have been free. When I complained the front desk offered me about rp10,000 per night when I think it should have been free. I demanded more for the unacceptable bugs, I wanted a free shuttle to the airport and they declined. A person, presumably the owner, contacted me and apologized and said he hopes I return. Anyway, back to positive... before the bugs we really enjoyed the statues around the facilities, the fireflies, we saw a monitor lizard in the small canyon by our room, a neat snake slithered by once, lots of beautiful birds and butterflies. If I had not had the bed bug encounter, I would have gave a full 5 star perfect review. But sorry I just can't let that slide. Gross.

Booked a standard room. With one bed. Was ok when I entered the room. Decided to lay down. Pillow did not smell so fresh.. At all. Told the staff. They asked if I wanted a new room or pillows. I opted for the new room. After i switched rooms I saw one of the staff carrying the pillows away, probably to throw them out I hope. They were stained more than a typical pillow. It was not a pleasant sight or smell. For the price I payed. There is way better accomodation, I do not like leaving a bad review but if it will save someone else from an unpleasant stay it is worth it. 1 good thing about this place, it's a short walk down a trail to get to the center of monkey forest road.

The guest houses are dotted in amongst a scenic rice field and along a slope towards a stream. It's quite picturesque. My stay was short and I didn't use much of their facilities. What makes this place great is that you feel as though you could be living there. The design of the place has a feel of a little village (in the middle of Ubud). It has a very charming layout. Be warned though the walls are a bit thin (Nothing ear plugs won't cure for a light sleeper). It's certainly not a 5 star hotel. The towels smell a little, The toiletries consist of a bar of soap and toilet paper. The charm makes up for anything it's lacking though. It is certainly value for money. I wouldn't deter anyone from staying here. If you have concerns, phone them in advance. A solid 4/5. Anything more would be false advertisement.

We have previously stayed at a Nick's property, but wanted to try Nick's Pension as it's closer to the centre of Ubud. We were originally assigned the room above reception (we had to walk behind the front desk to go up the stairs!) However, after walking through the property, we asked if we could be moved to one of the rooms in the terrace section (it's so peaceful!). The staff were happy to accommodate our request and quickly found us a new room. This was much appreciated and definitely made our stay more enjoyable! The new room also had a stand up shower which was a great bonus (the staff thought we wouldn't like this). The 'shortcut' to the main road through the grounds and over a creek is very handy (and beautiful!) and is a definite advantage of this property. Nick's Spa (owned by the same company) was wonderful and is located a short walk (2-3 minutes) down the road.

Arrived quite late. The room was absolutely perfect. We had a balcony, a four poster bed and it overlooked the rice field at the side and the pool the other. The only thing we could grumble about is that there's a bath with just a shower head attachment so showering was impossible. There's a safe in the room which is a bonus unless like us, you leave something in it. Breakfast was good with some choice. Nice pool with pool towels which is a bonus. They collected us from the airport which we appreciated. Yes, it was a little (& I mean only a little) more than getting a taxi but for the peace of mind it was great. They got our laundry done for us. Location- it's great. The little lane has lots of little restaurants and bars. There's also a restaurant onsite.

Nick's Pension is in the heart of Ubud. But you have the feeling of being at the countryside with a lush garden, with a paddy field, water is flowing everywhere. It has a good swimming pool. Nice bungalows.
