If you’re looking for a blend of classic luxury and Acehnese hospitality, the Hermes Palace Hotel is arguably the most iconic spot to drop your bags in the city. Review: A Royal Stay at Hermes Palace Hotel, Banda Aceh. My recent stay at Hermes Palace felt like a retreat from the bustling city streets, offering a polished experience that remains the gold standard for high-end accommodation in the region. Ambiance/Facilities: The hotel exudes a grand, "old-world" charm with its spacious lobby and marble finishes. The outdoor swimming pool is a standout feature—perfect for a sunset dip—and the fitness center is well-maintained. While the decor leans traditional rather than ultra-modern, it feels stately and well-kept. Food: The breakfast spread is impressive! They offer a great mix of Western options and authentic Acehnese cuisine. Don't miss the Mie Aceh at their restaurant; it’s spicy, rich, and hits all the right notes without having to leave the building. Staff Assistance: This is where the hotel truly shines. The staff are incredibly attentive and embody the warmth of Acehnese culture. From the swift check-in to the concierge helping me arrange a city tour, the service was seamless and genuinely friendly. Highlights: The location and the view are the winners here. Waking up to a view of the city with the mountains in the distance is breathtaking. Also, their coffee shop serves a mean Sanger (local coffee), which is a must-try. Price: It is on the higher end for Banda Aceh, but considering it’s the only 5-star international hotel in the area, the price is justified by the security, comfort, and amenities provided. Location: Superbly located! It’s just a 10-minute drive to the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque and very close to government offices and the Tsunami Museum. It’s the perfect base for both business and sightseeing.
