We wanted a ryokan experience and that is what we received. The hotel is over 100 years old but very well maintained and there were onsens there to relax. The private onsen was especially nice. The staff were excellent and very welcoming and friendly and really made our experience special. I highly recommend their Japanese breakfast.

Room was spotless and staff were very nice and helpful (they do go above and beyond). The room was spacious enough (we got the comfort room) and comfortable for my partner and I. It didn’t come with an irori but had a nice bath. It is about a half an hour leisurely walk to the main city area where all the things are happening. I found it to be an easy walk. There are a few restaurants and convenience stores close by. It was a relaxing getaway! The Kaiseki breakfast was a good experience and we also rented the private onsen. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

An absolutely must stay in Takayama. The ryokan has everything that embodies the Japanese spirit with all the comforts that you need. The ryokan despite being over a 100 years old is incredibly comfortable with spotless rooms, that are generously sized for you to feel both comfortable and at home. The standout, however, is not the cozy nature of the ryokan, or the countless little touches they have throughout that make you feel at home but the spectacular staff. The staff are welcoming, courteous and make every effort for you to have an enjoyable stay. They are incredibly hospitable and helped us on numerous occasions with restaurant bookings (as we did not have a local Japanese number) as well as assisting us after our stay with lost property (not at the ryokan either!). I would not hesitate to come back to Gifu just to stay at the Hidaya again.

We had a really great experience staying at this traditional Japanese hotel, really friendly and helpful staff made our stay very enjoyable. We had plenty of help with finding local attractions and restaurants and even booking taxis and making reservations for restaurants. The common areas were really clean and cosy. We requested to change our room free of extra charge, which was really great as not all rooms have showers inside bathrooms.

The staff are warm, helpful, clear in giving guidance. The breakfast was sumptuous. We had a family suite with two rooms. The only thing we wish it could be better is to have a shower room in the suite. However we enjoyed the public onsen bath, with a shower room. The place was spotless, authentically decorated, well-preserved Japanese culture and hospitality. Thank you!

We had an excellent stay at the Irori Yado Hidaya. The staff are excellent and make your stay great by their attention to detail and their friendliness. The hotel is a traditional Ryokan i.e. you sleep on futons, have floor seats etc. and we loved embracing this for 2 nights. The hotel offers free incence, candy, tea, and you can try on Yukata's on and even borrow them to go into town. The only things to note is that there are no showers in the room, and if you wish to shower you have to use the communal onsen (seperated by gender). This does not bother me personally, however you have to go naked into the Onsen, which may put some people off. We loved the experience, and want to thank all the staff again for being excellent.

I loved everything of this accommodation except transportation. I was really satisfied with super friendly and nice service and very traditional Japanese atmosphere which I really wanted. If I come back to Dakayama once again, I’ll definitely come back here! for the location, I would recommend you to take a taxi unless you are okay with walking about 30mins from station and bus terminal. Taxi usually charges you about 1000~1200 yen for about 7~9mins of driving distance.
