Kagura White Horse Inn

I stayed for one night to try snowboarding the next morning for the first time, I was very surprised by how helpful and friendly the staff was and there is a public bath at a walkable distance. The hotel is charming and retro, established in the 1970s and it has very lovely details in the decoration to enjoy

There are not many shops or restaurants around but that is offset by the way access to mitsumata ropeway across the road. So be prepared and bring some food from Yuzawa if you travel by bus.

Great accommodation, very comfortable, decent choice of food from the vending machines, good breakfast. Perfect location... 3-minute walk from the cableway up to Kagura ski resort and the bus stop from the train station. They also offer discounted ski passes (cheaper than the ski resort) and Onsen passes. Highly recommend for those looking to ski at Kagura or explore the area.

Super convenient- 5 mins walk to Matsumata Ropeway. Very clean property with ski/snowboard rental onsite.

Love this friendly cozy hotel! Location is right across the street from the Mitsumata ropeway. Perfect for ski trip. The host is a friendly family who treat their guests sincerely. Family room is comfortable for four of us to set our futons for good night sleep. Down comforters kept us warm during the night. Breakfast is good with selections of bread, noodles or rice, cereal, yogurt, milk, coffee, tea, juice. They have kids play one, ping pong, and a grand piano for guest to hang out. The only downside is that there is limited selection of food (only frozen food) for dinner. Ok for a day or two. They do have a shared kitchen, fridge, and dining hall for guests to use. So bring your own groceries if you want to have freshly cooked dinner.

Simple and cozy! This is exactly what I needed. Very nice staff and the older man speaks pretty good English. Also they all speak a little English. 3 minute walk to the Gandala. Be aware of the gandala and bus schedule plus how long it could take you to get down the mountain. This will save you a lot of time and taxi money to get back to the train station

Hosts were warm and generous and spoke English well. Hotel is a 2 min walk to gondola to amazing Kagura snow. Bus stop right out front too. Kitchen facilities to cook and also some basic meal options and vending machines.

No frills ski lodge with everything you need. Free parking just across the street, a 2 minute walk from the ropeway to amazing Kagura ski resort, friendly staff, cozy common areas. Highly recommend

I love skiing at Kagura, and every time I go to Kagura I stay at White Horse. It has everything I’m looking for in a quick ski trip.

The hosts and breakfasts were great. The facilities at Yuzawa were very average which isn't The White Horse Inn's fault - but the lack of restaurants for evening meals was disappointing

Loved my stay at White Horse Inn. Instead of staying at the official Naeba/Kagura resort, this offers a wonderfully convenient alternative for traveling skiers. If coming from the Echigo Yuzawa train station, you can take a taxi or the convenient local bus, which is about 20 minutes from the town of Mitsumata.. The Inn is literally across the street from the Mitsumata Ropeway tram, where you can buy lift tickets (cash or credit). White Horse Inn offers discounted lift tickets (cash only), as well as ski/snowboard rentals. It also offers discounted tickets to the nearby onsen, which is a 10 minute walk down the road. The breakfast was modest but adequate, and complimentary tea/coffee was available in one of the common areas. The food for sale was limited (cup noodles and some other prepackaged options), and the nearest restaurant (next to onsen) has some mediocre ramen and udon. My advice would be to buy food in Yuzawa. I ate around the Echigo Yuzawa station. The staff was friendly and helpful, so I'll definitely be back for the famous Naeba/Kagura fresh powder!

Great stay. Spacious clean room. Fantastically located just minutes from Kagura ski resort entrance. Perfect!

The staff were amazing it was best deal for a proper wester bed with mattress and frame and best of all just around the corner from the gondola.

Great place to stay for winter sports. 5 minutes to gondola for ski area. Easy access from train station via bus. The friendliest staff every. Takes some planning as food options are limited.
