What Guests Say About Their Stay

American tourist here. Stayed 3 nights with my girlfriend in January 2024. The place has a very cozy and home-like vibe, with tons of amenities that we absolutely loved (bath, rec room, theater room, bikes, laundry, breakfast). If you are coming to Yamanakako, this is where you need to stay. The owner is extremely friendly and despite a small language barrier, he made every effort to make our stay comfortable and accommodated all of our requests. Our room had a direct view of Mt. Fuji, which was just perfect.

Ryosha Tsukiakari is a lovely place to stay near Mt Fuji. The inn is charming; it is a semi-traditional inn (tatami mat rooms with futons in a more modern building). I'm glad I stayed here. That said, there are some caveats (these are NOT meant to diminish a stay here): 1) Traditional: take your shoes off on entering the building and use slippers in the public areas. Once in your room, slippers are only for the toilet/lav areas; you must remove the slippers to walk on the tatami floors (understandable, but not what Western travelers would be used to). 2) There are a toilet and lav in the room (on the 2d floor) while bathing is in the communal bath (on the 1st floor); this is not for everyone. 3) Though a 'modern' building, the windows leak. I stayed in Winter and with the screens opened there was always a draft coming in from the windows (double-glazed). I assume in summer, the hot, humid air gets in, too. 4) The breakfast is interesting to a non-Japanese ... a half-sandwich with some fruit, etc. I enjoyed it once; but, passed on it for the rest of my stay.

A beautiful quaint stay just a couple minutes for Lake Yamanaka. The manager was friendly, informative, and inviting. The unisex reservable onsen and jacuzzi makes travelling with a mixed group stress free. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone looking for an affordable rustic stay at Mt. Fuji.

I highly recommend a stay here. It was a great change of pace after the hustle-and-bustle of Tokyo. Staff was friendly, and patient with my poor attempts at Japanese, haha. Location is a bit out of the way, so be prepared to take a taxi or bus. If I could rebook my trip I'd stay here an extra night.

This property reminds me of an AirBnB and a hostel mix. Very big rooms with 4 beds, a toilet, sink and refrigerator in the room. Now for the showers, they are shared by all. We have been to hostels before so it was familiar for me and the wife, not the kids. There are 3 showers in the shared bathroom, you just go in, lock the door, take a shower, changed and leave. Pretty simple. They also have a private jacuzzi that you can sign up for every night and use for an hour. Staff was super helpful. They have a cafe in the property. They have bikes you can use to ride around the town, which we did. The ping pong table kept the kids entertained. And lastly, since the property is in a rural area, we dined across the street and had some very good authentic Japanese food in a small local mom and daughter ran restaurant. The only bad part of our trip is that we didn’t get to see Mt Fuji because it was too cloudy.

Cosy/homely and very clean place but not modern. A countryside feel. The first day we could not see Mt Fuji but we were lucky that we had non-cloudy clear days subsequently. Con: It was tiring dragging luggage for 15min to the hotel and google maps helped. There is no path so you share with cars. There was a small part of the walk where you hoped the van or bus or truck stayed in their lane. Please consider offering subsidized or free transport to and from the bus stop. However you could catch a 3000 yen taxi from the station. Pro: i loved the small public baths because you lock the door to enjoy in privacy. Because there’s not many guests you can book an hour time slot in the jacuzzi in the evening and keep going with the 24/7 bath next door. Or stay in the jacuzzi if no one books after. The streaming of shows and movies in the theater room is a bonus. Washing and dryer facilities too. The Izakaya is an excellent dinner option - absolutely delicious. There’s also a curry house which a bit more of a walk away but worthwhile walking to - limited English. Finally the owner was kind and all smiles. Thank you for offering guests this unique experience in a beautiful part of the work. It would be nicer though if he can offer to chat about the tourist attractions in English.

We wish we could've stayed longer than one night. The futons in the traditional Japanese room were more comfortable than any bed we had in a hotel. The cafe was delicious; I'd recommend trying the matcha and chai lattes. The service was impeccable, and we are grateful that our host helped us schedule our return to Kyoto. Thank you! We sincerely hope to be back soon :)

Our room was comfortable and had a view of Mt. Fuji. The host was nice and helpful. We enjoyed breakfasts at the cafe on the main floor during our stay.
