Having run a hostel in the past, I can appreciate the effort that goes into providing a welcome atmosphere and these folks have it down! Excellent location and easy access to tourist bus. These folks even provide complimentary shuttle service to the train/bus stations! Fantastic!

Loved my stay (in the female only dormitory) - the bedroom, shower rooms and toilets were soo clean, very impressive. Did not use the kitchen much, but was not able to find green teas or coffee - maybe I just did not know where to look. Met friendly fellow travellers . Front desk host helped me with my luggage (rooms are upstairs) This place is great, quiet, and located near Hida No Sato - BUT rather far from downtown Takayama. I missed the bus from and to the station… and had to lug my ever heavier roller bag. Better time management would help avoid this problem. Overall, a great place to stay.

The staff was absolutely wonderful and took the time to show us around everything. They even provided us with a list of transport options and restaurants nearby. They offer a free shuttle service in the morning to the train station, too. The building itself was in great condition too, and the rooms were really nice. The only issue we had was the beds were very, very firm, so it was difficult to sleep on. That being said, if you’re okay with harder mattresses, this is the perfect place for you!

Great place in every way. Not a single issue, and everything is labeled in several languages which made using the bidet a bit easier. The biggest thing is how incredible the manager (I think) is: besides being friendly and helpful, when he saw the bags we were gonna carry all the way to the bus station, he just went and drove us there himself. By far the best experience staying anywhere, and if I'm ever back in Japan, I know where I'll be staying. Thank you for serving us during our stay, and I look forward to coming back again some day.

Sakura Guest House is run by a family and they are really sweet. They let you check in early as well, compared to other hostels who just allow you to drop your bag. The rules are very relaxed and shoes are allowed inside (which for me was not a big plus as it compromised with the cleanliness). The bed is comfortable, the room is warm. The location is quite nice, in a residential neighbourhood. It is very close to Hida folk village.
