Seaside Hotel Mimatu Oetei

Disappointing is the first word that comes to mind. Although it advertises itself to be "on the beach", and it is, that doesn't have much to do with anything other than our room had a peek-a-boo view of the bay. The onsen, which it proudly advertised, had an odd smell. And, the walk from the train station was a bit too long for us, pulling our suitcases along. One small elevator, very slow, with frequent long waits. Teeny, tiny toilet room. A small bathroom with a sink and nowhere to store toiletries. There was a nice area with a table and two chairs by a window. The beds were sleepable. Overall, the room just wasn't comfortable or pleasing to be in. An entry area, toilet room, sink and bathroom, sleeping area, and table and chairs, with five different floor coverings, and as many different wall coverings. This was a full board stay (breakfast and dinner). Lovely service, excellent food, no western options, all Japanese. The kaiseki experience was well worth the inconveniences of our room. I would like to add one note. Our dinner reservation one evening was for 7 pm. Due to unforeseen circumstances, we got back to the hotel at 8 pm. The front desk noticed, they alerted the waitstaff, who came to our room and fairly insisted we have our dinner, though we missed our appointed time. Our server that evening was "AXEL." This young man did not rush us nor do anything other than provide excellent service and a wonderful dinner which was badly needed after our day

Great room nice onsen on roof top

Room was good size. Bed provided has a good mattress for back support.

The interior had a nice cozy feel and it was a bonus to listen to a live pianist perform in the lobby area. The staff were all very welcoming and helpful even when I had a difficult situation with my luggage that they resolved with compassion. The kaiseki was amazing and our private bath was very relaxing. It was nice to be next to the sea for the breeze while soaking in the bath. The price was very affordable for the service they provide. I highly recommend this place and I will definitely visit again next time I come back to Beppu.

Rooms were excellent, and the staff super friendly and helpful! The set menu was also excellent! Would definitely recommend to others, and come back again to stay!

fantastic place in a great location, with an open bath on the roof, beautiful view on the ocean; very good food and friendly staff.

Everything was amazing, from the staff service to the food and the view was gorgeous. Food: The menu changes everyday so we were able to enjoy various kinds of deliciousness. You can select your preferred timing for dinner and breakfast. Room: Staff has already prepared hot water, tea packets and mini snacks for you to enjoy. While you are out for dinner in the communal area, staff will prepare your futon while you are away. Toilet: The tub and washlet is separated. Water for the tub is hot spring water, not the normal kind so you can enjoy it in your room if being naked with strangers isn't up your alley. Parking: Plenty of slots available.

Love this hotel with its sea view. Super worth it to include the dinner and breakfast. They serve traditional japanese breakfast, and they took the effort to serve different each day so you don’t get repeat.

Breakfast was not buffet but we are enjoying the breakfast though.

A great place to stay. The included meals were superb. Our room with private deep soaking bath and the unobstructed sea view is awesome. Will definitely come back on our next visit.

Seaside location, delicious traditional breakfast in old world hotel. Hotels are clean but bathroom needs upgrading. Timescale all over sliding doors & in sink. Sides of onsen had visible algae on the sides, steps inside the onsen were slimy & slippery. Definitely requires upgrading

Property is kind of dated. especially the private onsen in the room.. definitely need renovation

Conveniently located next to esplanade & park. Nearby are convenience stores, supermarket & food court. Beppu station is around 800m away. The outdoor onsen on the rooftop is great which I prefer to the indoor one. Both are small but the rooftop one has better ambience especially in the evening. Room is spacious & bedding is comfortable.

Room and hotel was nice. Bathroom was very old, worn out, corroded shower door, horrible water pressure, damaged tub, gross floor. Basically bathroom needed to be renovated 10 years ago.
