The bed was very comfortable. The room and the bathroom are very clean. Staff were very friendly and helpful. It's within walking distance to M PARADE FAMILY STORE SDN BHD so you can buy your gift chocolate or snack there. Much cheaper than at the airport. Also within walking distance to many great food: ATLANTIC NYONYA @ MELAKA RAYA, Ee Ji Ban Chicken Rice Ball, Restoran Tong Sheng, Teo Chew Bak Kut Teh, etc. Will definitely come back again.

The hotel's location is excellent, just a short walk to Jonker Street, Red Square, the mall, and Mahkota Hospital. Check-out time is also a little later, so you can enjoy a relaxed time and still have time to pray in your room before leaving. The room rate is definitely worth it. If you're in Melaka again, you'll definitely stay here again.

More about hotels in Malacca

About Malacca accommodation

Malacca is the kind of place where a 500-year-old stone archway sits a five-minute walk from a night market selling coconut ice-cream and karaoke machines. This UNESCO World Heritage town on Malaysia's west coast is small enough to cover on foot, and it packs a genuinely different look onto every street: terracotta-red Dutch buildings, Peranakan shophouses, and a slow brown river running straight through the middle of town.

A weekend here usually means exploring the heritage core by day and hitting Jonker Street's market by night, or basing yourself a little further out near the zoo and family resorts if you've got kids along. There's a stay to match either plan, from AU$8-a-night hostel bunks right up to riverside suites with their own courtyard pool.

Where should you stay in Malacca?

  • Bandar Hilir: Bandar Hilir is Malacca's heritage core, home to Dutch Square, the old fort gate, and most of the city's museums. Stay here if you want the main sights within walking distance.
  • Jonker: The Jonker area is old Chinatown and the weekend night market rolled into one, full of antique shops, coffee houses, and boutique guesthouses tucked into restored shophouses.
  • Melaka City Center: The Melaka City Center riverside strip is handy for the night cruise jetty and an easy walk to both Bandar Hilir and Jonker, a solid middle-ground base for a first visit.
  • Melaka Raya: A busier, more local commercial strip a short trishaw ride from the old town, with some of the best-value hotels and hawker food in the city.
  • Ayer Keroh: Out past the highway exit, this is Malacca's family and resort zone, home to Zoo Melaka and a cluster of larger hotels with proper pools and grounds to spread out in.

How much is Malacca accommodation?

A clean, comfortable room in Melaka Raya or Ayer Keroh can cost well under AU$50 a night, and Malacca overall is one of the more affordable heritage cities in the region to base yourself in. Only the riverside boutique hotels in the old town push into proper splurge territory.

  • Backpackers and hostels: From AU$8 per night. Dorm beds and simple guesthouses, mostly clustered around Jonker and Melaka Raya.
  • Budget hotels and guesthouses: From AU$25 per night. Straightforward private rooms an easy walk from Dutch Square.
  • Mid-range hotels: From AU$50 per night. Comfortable rooms with a pool, often in Bandar Hilir or Melaka City Center.
  • Boutique stays: From AU$65 per night. Restored shophouses in Jonker with real character, usually just a handful of rooms each.
  • Luxury and riverside resorts: From AU$140 per night. Heritage mansions and riverfront suites with their own pool or spa.

What is Malacca known for?

Your hotel is just the base. Here's what most visitors build a trip around.

  • Jonker Street Night Market: Every Friday to Sunday evening, this heritage street turns into a lantern-lit strip of food stalls, antique sellers, and buskers. Coconut ice-cream and grilled satay are the two things everyone seems to be holding. Get there before 7pm if you want to beat the crowds.
  • A river cruise past the old town: A slow, roughly 45-minute boat ride down the Melaka River passes the terracotta Stadthuys, Christ Church, riverside cafes, and a stretch of traditional wooden houses along the bank. It's better after dark, when the bridges and old buildings are lit up in colour.
  • Nyonya laksa: Malacca's signature dish is a rich, coconut curry noodle soup topped with prawns, fish cake, bean sprouts, and a boiled egg. It's noticeably different from the drier, sourer laksa served further north in Penang, and stalls all over town serve their own version of it.
  • Stadthuys and the old fort gate: The terracotta-red Stadthuys building anchors Dutch Square and is one of the oldest buildings still standing in the country. A short walk away, a single stone archway called Porta de Santiago is the last remaining piece of a centuries-old fort wall, and it's one of the most photographed spots in town.

What are the best hotels in Malacca?

  • The Majestic Malacca Hotel: A restored 1920s riverside mansion turned into a 54-room Small Luxury Hotels of the World property, complete with a proper spa village and bicycles guests can borrow to explore the old town.
  • Casa Del Rio Melaka Hotel: Dutch-style riverside architecture with private balconies looking straight over the water or the central courtyard. A five-minute walk from Dutch Square and the night market.
  • Courtyard by Marriott Melaka: One of the newer hotels in town, crisp and high-tech, with 287 rooms right in Melaka City Center and an easy walk to the riverfront.
  • Hatten Hotel Melaka: A big rooftop swimming pool and a fine-dining restaurant, sitting right at the centre of Bandar Hilir's main attractions.
  • Baba House Melaka: A boutique guesthouse in Jonker with a private pool and richly decorated interiors, a short stroll from the night market.

Tips for finding the perfect accommodation in Malacca

  • Pick your base first: Bandar Hilir for heritage sightseeing on foot, Jonker for the night market and nightlife, Melaka Raya for budget dining, or Ayer Keroh if you're travelling with kids and want the zoo and resort space.
  • Book ahead on weekends: Jonker Street's market runs Friday to Sunday, so old-town rooms fill up fast on weekends and during Malaysian and Singaporean school holidays.
  • Stay walkable to Dutch Square: Most of Malacca's heritage sights sit within a 15-minute walk of each other, so a stay near the square cuts down on taxi and trishaw trips.
  • Look for river frontage if you're doing the cruise: A handful of hotels sit right by the jetty, handy if you don't want a long walk back after the night cruise.
  • Check parking if you're driving in: Older shophouse-style stays in Jonker often don't have their own car park, so confirm this before booking if you're road-tripping down from Kuala Lumpur.
