My visit to Yangon was for business but Mercure had done an excellent job at making me feel right at home. Staff were all pleasant and you get everything you need for a short stay (nice breakfast, bar, hotel, etc.) The room and facilities are quite decent, not the newest but do not affect my stay at all. I will definitely come back to Mercure again for my next trip to the city.

Bad experience. I booked the room 1 week in advance but no room available for me when check-in and "upgraded" me to a most remoted unwanted suite by the end of corridor, while there were actually many other room choices. I wandered if the hotel was really that full that could not give me the type of room i booked. Anyway, i requested to change my room the next day and they agreed. However, when i checked with them the next day, they said they did not have record of my request and still insisted that they have no room available. I was surprised. Finally they agreed to change me the room but emphasized that this was supposed to be reserved for another customer and gave me the feeling that i was making trouble and they were just doing a favour to me! Come on, i am a customer too. Why other people can have room but ignored mine! (If the hotel was really so fully booked, then why they accepted my reservation in the first hand!) Payment: I made full advance payment at hotels.com during booking, and they acknowledged when I checked out. But after i left, the hotel charged all room charges on my credit card again! I had to call long distance back to the hotel to ask for a reason and refund. (Upto now, the refund had not shown on my card bill yet) This is a very ridiculous and bad experience. I used to stay in various Accor hotels every month but this Mercure had the lowest performance i have ever had so far. Lastly, the "new" room decoration looked old.

Recommended by a friend. The property is big with a nice pool in the Courtyard near the Main dining and bar area. Check in was smooth and efficient as there was already pre-arranged assignment. Room is of a decent size, bed is hard which is to my liking. Toilet is clean with sufficient amenities. Towels are soft and nice. Two negatives for me. Poor wifi and plenty of mosquitoes in open area like pool side having a drink.

The hotel is located on me of the busiest main roads in Yangon. So, the traffic is really bad most of the day. Add the bad driving of most drivers throughout the country, you would think twice to get out of the hotel. If you do get out, do your prayers and do not look at how people drive or cross streets. It is however not unique to this hotel only; traffic in Yangon is bad in most places. The hotel itself is quite nice. After the renovation, it should be even nicer. The staff are really polite, friendly, and accommodating. We were not charged for two extra beds because Hotels.com allowed me to reserve a room with one King bed only even though I specifically requested a room that could accommodate two adults and two kids. It was a very nice gesture from the management. The hotel is especially suitable if you are staying more than a few days. There are washing machines on each floor which you can use for free. Drying is also free but you have to ask staff. We were pleasantly surprised that very nice staff picked up the clothes and returned them neatly folded. We were more than happy to reward them with handsome tips every time.

The spacious studio/apartment layouts are conducive for work, especially if collaborators need to visit. The hotel promptly obliged when I requested for a larger table so that we could hold our meetings. The proximity to the airport is also helpful. However there is not much by way of stores, eateries or other conveniences around the hotel. So be prepared for a 10min walk to the nearest mall.
