The place is very secure, I stayed in the sixth pod bedroom. There is no AC the only downfall, but there is one large fan. It’s more of a relaxed, safe vibe opposed to the other hostels in the area are more lively and for the talkative younger crowd.

Doesn't have a free breakfast but you can buy your choice of a number of dishes for 60 South African rand. If you go the pod option, you get a power point behind the backwall of your locker so you can charge stuff while you sleep. Sure someone I guess could climb over you and steal it, but that seems unlikely. In the day (or while you sleep) you have locker at the curtain end of your pod (well beside the left part of your curtain). It works by you swiping your room/bed card and it unlocks then you do the same when you want to lock it. It is big enough to fit a school bag size backpack in, along with a lot of other stuff at the same time. There are a number of showers and toilets in a section of the pod dorm room, but there's also a shower outside in the hall and two toilets. Other levels of the building might be the same. I was in the Rio de Janeiro room. But pods are comfortable. The only thing is there is no where really to hang anything like your towel (you get rent of a towel for free). They do replace the towel at reception if you ask. They don't do laundry but they can arrange it for you. Drop it off the evening before and pick it up the next one (although it doesn't operate on weekends). Area seems fairly safe although bottom of Loop Street towards if going to the waterfront, not sure I'd do that part after dark. There are some people who ask you for money around the neighbourhood but this is the case all over Cape Town and wider South Africa.

So had three bookings here as my Garden Route tour got cancelled so I decided to just do day tours out of Cape Town. Staff made sure I stayed in the same dorm room and bed. Anyway I'd recommend while your in Cape Town doing. A shark cage encounter. I did Marine Dynamics (which coincidentally is the same one you can book at the reception desk). Your not going to see any Great Whites in the Cape Town area anymore due to most being killed by humans and orcas, then the rest fleeing. But it is still a great experience with other big sharks. Also recommend catching an uber to or there are some expensive tours transporting you there, to Cheetah Outreach. Where you can get up close with a Cheetah. Table Mountain obviously, but don't disregard the cable car, this one is unique in that the floor spins so everyone no matter where you're standing gets to see all the view. I also caught the public train to Simon's Town which cost 16 rand (so yeah about $1.40 AUD) It is actually a very scenic journey. Down there you can obviously visit Boulders Beach (you can see penguins for free on the boardwalk walk without going in) but I also snorkeled the Great African Kelp Forest. i did it with a company called RADD. But there's a few down that way. I also did a tour that did Cape Point and Cape of Good Hope. Choose one that does a hike between the two. It's easy but brilliant scenery There's some pretty cool parks near hostel such as the VOC vegetable garden, The Company's Garde

Chose 91 Loop as it was close to everything including the G Adventures hotel I ended a tour on, so was an easy walk with bags. Had never slept in a pod before. It was better than a normal bunk dorm bed. Because you've got thin walls down each side with a curtain over your feet end, you've got plenty of privacy. You can still hear everything happening in the hallway outside the dorm (mine was a bed sharing that wall), the shower out there, the bed underneath, the ones beside you in fact the whole dorm room. Snoring, people talking on their phones, watching TV without headphones, not being master of their domain, everything! But this is a modern day problem in regular backpacker dorms now, the unwritten rules of dorm etiquette just don't exist like they did at the turn of the century. You know don't turn on room light at a time people might be sleeping, don't be in the room during check-in times (people seem to just live in the pods, come all the way to Cape Town and just surf Ticktock videos and social media that you could jsut do at home, who knows. So the only thing I'd say 91 Loop could improve would be to publish the rules to remind and teach the new to the backpacking world, how staying in a dorm works. Staff very helpful, you can buy all three meals of the day there if you want, book tours, they booked me an uber to the airport, I had three bookings due to a tour company cancelling my Garden Route 5 day trip and they made sure I was in the same room and bed.

Our room was clean and for our family of four it had the perfect set up with one queen and two decent sized bunk beds. Shower needs a bit of an update but otherwise the room was great. Nice touch having complimentary tea, coffee & juice in the morning and offers to order a decently priced breakfast. Location was close to restaurants.

I had a few days of holiday before conference but not much money. I chose the mixed gender 20-pod room and had no regrets. You get a twin bed with a curtain, some side space,/ and a locked cupboard. Showers and toilet stalls fairly private and usually clean. Everyone in the room was quiet and respectful. Pod was cozy. The breakfast is good and affordable. Staff are really nice. I’m a plus-size woman in my 40s btw. I had an upper bunk/pod. No regrets on this stay!

Front desk crew are habitually welcoming, friendly and involved. Housekeeping is phenomenally meticulous, and the rooms are scrupulously clean. Anything that breaks (lights, plugs etc) is literally almost immediately fixed, too. And the breakfast is delicious and far more than the advertised "continental brekkie" with a choice of, I believe, 5 different hot dishes (I recommend the pancakes with syrup. And then add bacon and butter!) Also, the folks in the resto are almost all a delight to deal with. And the kitchen is very, very good with their honey soy chicken wings as my personal fave!
