This is the third time we have stayed in this beautiful hotel. It is near the Santander ferry, and is an ideal place to stay. Full of character, the rooms are clean and spacious surrounded by gorgeous countryside. We will stay again next year!

Overall disappointing: - We paid about 200€/night and they smashed my family in a tiny room to which they added many beds. - The room had several spiders and spider webs - Very poor breakfest. Packed pasteries, bad coffee and simple fruit. - Away from the main attractions (Santillana del Mar and caves of Altamira)

Welcomed by the manager who gave us a tour of the hotel (which was only 7 bedrooms) before taking us to our rooms. He was very proud of this hotel and its history. The rooms were large,very clean and the hotel was surrounded by fields at the back. Found the sister at breakfast time very "slack" in looking after us and had to ask for coffee and toast, etc. She spent her time on her phone whilst we were eating. The breakfast overall was lovely with a good selection. Signage to the hotel was very poor and we had to go into another hotel to ask if they could find it for us. But overall a lovely place and the manager was superb.

Check in was slow as there was only one member of staff. The room was large, but we were on the ground floor, looking on to the car park and there was no net curtain. So we had to close the heavy drapes, making the room dark. The towels were small and nearly worn out. There was no AC or fridge, but the staff were pleasant.

This hotel is fantastic! Family run hotel who work hard to make you feel very welcome... Large rooms with stone walls... Bath was large and roomy. Large Breakfast was very good... Beautiful outside sitting area great place to have a glass of wine and relax in... Will definitely stay here again!

The owner was lovely, but his 2 sisters who help him at the front desk only spoke Spanish. People parked their cars right in front of the hotel so that those on the ground level had to keep their curtains closed so guests entering or leaving the hotel didn't stare into their rooms. Deliveries and departing guests started at 7:00 am some days so sleeping in was not an option. The hotel neighbors a dairy farm and the odor of cow was at times quite strong. The breakfast was copious and reasonable, the inside spotless. There are MANY things to do nearby, particularly Altamira, a zoo and the charming medieval village of Santillana del Mar.

PLeasant hotel, but very hard to find. Took a long time to find Santinalla, then even longer to get to the hotel. Once there it was fine except there was nothing to eat, and I was too tired to find somewhere else!! Light snack would have been great!!

Both of the hosts we met, Maria and Jose were absolutely wonderful. Jose speaks beautiful English and was a wealth of information about the area. Maria does not speak English but she has such a wonderful personality that she was able to convey every message successfully. We were made to feel more like we were joining family for a stay rather than visiting a hotel. I would recommend this hotel to anyone looking for a more quiet area to stay rather than busy Santander.

Having stayed elsewhere at hotels catering for international guests, Casona Los Caballeros was an experience of real Spain. It's a lovely historic manor house among the fields just outside Santillana del Mar. The room was fine, spacious and comfortable and clean, but not a non-smoking room as we had requested. The lady of the house who was on reception when we arrived spoke no English, but we managed to understand the basics of checking in, breakfast is here, the lounge is there, etc. Her husband who was in later and in the morning spoke reasonable English. Breakfast was also entirely Spanish - no cereals, no cheese and cold meat, just coffee, juice, bread and pastries. It was a lovely stay, great experience.

We booked this as it was on the way to our final destination after a ferry trip to Santander. Lovely old farm house building, in the country, 5 mins from a beautiful medieval town. Take you Spanish phrase book! none of the staff speak English, which we found very endearing, but may cause problems if you have no Spanish at all. Lovely stone lined rooms, nice bed, lots of room, continental breakfast was good.

The hotel itself and the surrounding countryside is beautiful. At the time we visited (early June) the hotel was very quiet and was cold at nigh, and the breakfast was very simple, toast and cake.The nearby village, Santillana De Mar, is beautiful with lots of restaurants and Comillas, 20 mins away by car, has a beautiful beach and historical buildings.

The Casona is small, new hotel just south of Santillana del Mar. It's very difficult to find unless you have a good map of the area. It offers lot of free parking and can be recommendeded only to those with cars. The location is nice and quiet, however. The rooms are large and well equiped. One night in late May, we were the only guests. As a result, sadly, some of the downstairs rooms smelled of mildrew and possibly mold. Our room upstairs, however, was dry and nice. The optional breakfast was marginal, mostly toast, rolls, and coffee. The single staff person was friendly, and the owner-manager seemed like a really nice guy dedicated to learning English.

We received a very warm welcome (which I'm sure is extended to all guests), and we were made to feel like important visitors. There is considerable attention to detail throughout the hotel, and the owners and staff could not do more to make our short stay a real pleasure. Our only minor criticism is that the hotel can be difficult to find, and is in fact outside the town of Santillana Del Mar, which caused some confusion to our satellite navigation system. GPS co-ordinates would be useful information when confirming bookings.
