Lovely small boutique hotel near the beach with a lovely restaurant on the beach too. Staff were lovely, gorgeous breakfast, small but clean rooms. Pool we’re beautiful and the courtyard was relaxing. A real little gem and excellent value for money. Talalla is a must much quieter then other beach towns and more beautiful!

We had a great stay at Handun Villas. We only stayed 1 night as we were breaking up a longer journey but were very pleased with the cleanliness of the room. It had good air conditioning and a lovely outside bathroom. We were greeted on arrival with a delicious fruit smoothie and the Sri Lankan breakfast my husband had for breakfast was among his favourite on our trip so far. We ate dinner at the hotels restaurant on the beach and had a local curry and grilled calamari - both delicious. The road outside the hotel is a busy and noisy road but you can’t hear this noise when you close the doors to the villa. I would recommend!

Handun Villas is in a good location, close to the beach. This is about the only positive thing I can say about it though I’m afraid. The bathrooms are outdoors, so we had cockroaches in our shower. The bed linen was not clean, and the mosquito nets were poor, although thankfully we did not have too many mosquitos. I was surprised to see how small it was and how different it looked from the pictures. I also am a bit sceptical about some of the positive reviews for this place because there is no way it gets any more than 3 stars for cleanliness... The staff were friendly, but none of them spoke very good English so it was quite difficult to make requests or ask questions. I probably would not recommend people to stay at this place right now, but if improvements are made (like putting a proper ceiling over the bathrooms!, and doing something with the land behind the pool and not just leaving it full of burned bushes and grass), then perhaps I could change my mind.

This place was nothing like the photos, it's listed as a 5 Star but is actually 2 Star at most. The Pool was dirty couldn't be used, there were no management on site. we weren't shown around the complex., we were just shown to our small room. The worst part was Hotels.com refused to offer me a full refund, they only offered £78 back... I use Hotels .com for work and must spend £1000's every year..and they wouldn't even give me my money back, I'm done with Hotels.com. We refused to stay and left within 20 mins and found somewhere else to stay.. wasted day, miss advertised, this accommodation is a complete fraud.

The property has been immaculately restored. It is clean, bright, quiet, beautiful and most importantly has a warmth and charm to it that is uniquely Sri Lankan. Damien, the manager, went above and beyond to take care of me and my friend. I very much appreciated his attention to detail and timeliness...a rare commodity on the SL hospitality circuit. The food was fantastic as well! I highly recommend a stay for a few nights and I certainly would love to revisit.

Talalla is one of the best place to do nothing - just relax all day to recharge and nourish both your body and soul. Handun Villas is the perfect spot to do this. The building was an old manor refurbished into luxury villas, our villa was located in a beautiful garden, with a very serenity looking pool, where we hear sounds of tropical birdsong, see peacocks and chipmunks appearing from time to time. I personally think that this may be a good spot for a memorable destination wedding. There were couples got engaged and doing wedding photography here during our stay. The general manager deserves a huge compliment, he is truly an asset to Handun. As they don't seem to have many staffs working here, Mr. Damien literally takes care of everything, always with a genuine smile on his face, even if it means working over his normal hours. It is best to let him know about your plans in advance so he can make proper arrangement for you without tiring him out. Handun serves really delicious home cooked meals, we got the opportunity to do a cooking class to learn about making local Sri Lankan cuisine. It was a very lovely experience.

We stayed for 6 days at Handun Villas and we are extremely happy with the stay. The hotel is built around an old dutch manor, being the center piece and main building of the hotel. Spread throughout the fenced-in area are various cottages / villas which is the rooms you stay in. The architectural style looks amazing and invites relaxation and a cozy atmosphere. The pool area with hammocks further build on the chill vibe of the hotel. Throughout the property are mango trees which ripen in April. We stayed in a room on the easternmost part of the area, room nr. 7 Kiri Palu. It was a 'Standard Room' consisting of a main room with a bed with mosquito cover, a desk with coffee/tea brewer, a TV with decoder and a wardrobe. The room also had a fairly large bathroom, with a toilet, a shower and a sink. There were two shower heads - one normal, one 'rainfall'. Seperate water heaters per room, and a bit on the small side. The beds were comfortable. The sockets are sri lankan, but you can use European chargers by fooling the top hole (grounding) with a pen /pencil. The wifi was good during the night, but slow during daytime. Both the hotel manager, Damian, and the assistant manager showed fantastic hospitality and helped us out a lot. Anything from transportation and excursions, laundry, cooking classes and day-to-day questions were handled with elegance and a fantastic hospitality.
