Highbury Colombo

If you're looking for an oasis inside the city, the Highbury is the place. I stayed on a long term business trip, and it was exactly what I was looking for after long work days. The accomodations are clean, WiFi strong, and the owners are kind and welcoming. The stay is a short Tuktuk ride away from major attractions and has some great restaurants nearby.

Love the boutique and historical style plus the personal attentiveness by the owner operators … a beautiful experience of Sri Lanka’s hospitality

It was in a quiet area. For the price paid, it was a v poor room.

This small hotel is located within a beautiful family home and property. The neighborhood is green and has a few nice restaurants, supermarket and post office all close by walking. We enjoyed our stay here and highly recommend it!

Great hotel, location good. Easy to get tuk tuk to all the sights cheaply. Breakfast was great, lots of choice. Sherlock was lovely and really helpful. Took very good care of us. Can't recommend highly enough.

Really nice play to relax. Little oasis in the busy colombo. A little bit difficult to find as it looks like a private house from outside. I recommemd use uber as you can fill in the exact address. We stayed in the suite and it was wonderful. Room is spacious and comfortable and bed feels like sleeping in a cloud. Highly recommended!

Our stay at the Highbury was wonderful. It really is a lovely place. The staff and owners were extremely kind and personable. They helped us with rides from the airport and around town. Sherlock was amazing! He drove us everywhere and took very good care of us. 5 stars for him!!! The breakfasts were a perfect way to start the day. This was exactly the kind of place I was looking for. Thank you!

Staff was very helpful when I got a health problem. And in organising transport to my next destination.

It was difficult to find the place (entrance isn't obvious and the reception is at the back and isn't always manned) and once we did, the hotel staff weren't particularly friendly. The hotel is nicely decorated but there were lots of mozzies. Worst of all, I found myself with bedbug bites after our stay. It was our final stop in Sri Lanka so very unfortunate.

Photos are deceiving. We booked the family room and paid more then $200 for 2 nights. They provided us with 1 queen bed and 3 not so stable bunk beds. Toilet bowls were so dirty from previous usages of other guests. We found red ants on their tables. We were roaches near the bed side. Air con was not strong. Place was quite dirty. Their pictures are deceiving.

Great staff, huge rooms, great food and very private. Will also help you with rides and anything u want to see in Colombo. We wouldn't stay anywhere else.

Great for a couple of nights in Colombo. Manitha and Manoji are warm and friendly hosts and make you feel very welcomed into their place. A serene family atmosphere and the Sri Lankan breakfast is fantastic. The late night airport transfer was very much appreciated.

A beautiful room, excellent food, with friendly helpful staff and management. A haven of peace in a busy city. Quick, efficient transfer transfer to Fort station available.

Nice place but very isolated. We had a very nice room directly connected to an open air patio, no wall/window between the room and the patio, only curtains. Nice but also very welcoming for the mosquitoes. Moreover the room was on the first floor, opening to the common dining room, which was a bit noisy in the morning. The house is very nice though, and its garden is gorgeous.

We had booked a double room, but were given 2 twin beds pushed together with separate bed sheets. No toiletries or water provided - we had to request. Only a light single bed sheet provided which was not sufficient (but typical in some hotels) no safe in room, room was not cleaned or bed made during our 2 day stay. The hotel was full and we drew the short straw and had a room which seemed like a converted outhouse away from rest of building. Our friends had 2 other rooms here which were nicer and more modern in finishings. Breakfast was limited in options but nice.

Fantastic 3 night stay. Helpful and friendly family run property not far from the city. We chose to walk which is quite a way but everything is accessible by tuk tuk and the daughter (sorry I don't know her name!) gave us some great bar/cafe recommendations. Room was clean with fan and air con and whilst we didn't eat at the property the smells from the kitchen were all good!!! Thank you...

Beautiful rooms, lovely garden, maybe a bit overpriced.

I was charged 23 dollars for early check in, pretty shocking as most places let you have for free. The room stank of urine and the cushions were very dusty which made the room feel unclean as they should have been dusted. The bathroom mat was dirty, I asked for a clean one and the toilet had not been cleaned, this was done on request. There was used toiletries left from the previous guest. The women made me breakfast when I arrived, 2 pieces of toast and a cup of tea. The knife was old and dirty. I asked to wash my hands in the kitchen and the kitchen was messy and dirty. The staff were very friendly and the architecture of the building and interior design is beautiful. However, I booked a taxi to take me to the train station and the women said taxis are unreliable so suggested she would take me. The taxi did turn up but she had already charged me twice the price so she made more money out of me that way. Her husband drove me to the train station and was helpful when I arrived as it was 4:20 in the morning very dark and no one else at the train station.

Leafy suburb, good area. Hotel architecture good, but room stank of urine! Cushions in room very dusty. I arrived early and they gave me the option of early check in for 23 dollars. when I got to the room the toilet and bath mat was still dirty and there was toiletries from the previous guest on the table. Because of this I wasnT able to relax well as I didn't think it was a very clean hotel. Interior beautiful and owners nice and friendly, but cushions too dusty. I also went into the kitchen area to wash my hands and it was very messy and unclean.

The hospitality of the owners is impressive. Located in a quiet and peaceful area, this hotel awakens our artistic sensibilities with its well-maintained garden and the fusion of indoor and courtyard spaces. Listening to the sounds of wild birds as the morning sun pours in is soothing. I highly recommend staying for an extended period of time.
