We arrived late and picked up our keys for the room from the front desk. There was no hotel staff at that time. We went to the room and found out that the key card reader was missing. So we couldn't get into the room. We called the emergency number and the person at the other end said that he was in Zurich and couldn't help us. He said he doesn't know anything about how to contact the hotel people.
We were desperate. By then it was midnight. We finally managed to find a room at Hotel Merkur in Biel. They have staff at the hotel 24 hours a day. It was a very good hotel and the same price as the City Hotel Biel.
We have never seen such a terrible hotel as this City Hotel Biel. They do not care about you and they can leave you stranded.

City Hotel is conveniently located near the train station and offers true single rooms, so you're not paying for space you don't need. The breakfast was good, and the front desk staff was extremely helpful. They let us keep our bags at the desk until check-in, recommended great nearby restaurants and gave useful information about the spa across the street.

Good breakfast with variety. Drink station of coffee and tea available any time. Friendly staff.
Walking distance (5 to 10 minutes) walk to train station, and walking distance to lake Biel. Room is large , basic but clean. Not air conditioned. Good value for money.

No airconditioning with temperatures of 35C. No seperate room for shower. For Bfast had to ask for ham and cheese and juice. Was brought exactly 4 slices for 2 people. No more. Chef came out and took the last remaining bread roll infront of us, while we were still having breakfast.

Good hotel - good breakfast and short walk from rail station. The only point I would highlight is it was very hot when I stayed. Whilst fan was provided it was still very hot at night. Would use again if staying in city - but may avoid in exceptionally hot weather !
