Beautiful buildings in the Lanna style in a very tranquil setting. The only room available when I booked had twin beds. When a room with a double bed became available I was moved to a superior room at no extra charge. The staff were very friendly and the front desk staff, very helpful with good English. A 15-20 minute walk into town. It was a very pleasant stay.

Friendly staff, good location. If electric cattle & iron are provided in the room or at least each floor / block that will be excellent.

Nice clean room & bathroom: We opted for the more basic room as it was just a quick overnight stay, as well as a trip down memory lane - we’d stayed here on our travels 33 years ago and wanted to see if the original owners, Patrick & Cathy, and their son, Ben, were still here; sadly not but the owners have kept the original building in good order and thoughtfully added others, still in keeping. They all surround a very nice swimming pool; good size but doing lengths & sun bathing around (could do with some parasols though as it was lovely weather & the sun is hot). It’s about 25 min walk from the centre of town, but we’re happier being on the outskirts as we found some areas of Chiang Rai had sadly become a little undesirable; but the city is still with a visit & you can avoid these. Helpful staff who waited past 9pm for our arrival due to delayed travel, and the receptionist called our next hotel for us as I was having trouble getting a response from them. Definitely recommend Ben Guest House

Ben Guesthouse is a good budget choice in Chiang Rai. It has a good pool and is in a good location. For me, the only issues were that the traditional build meant that the rooms were not sound proof and also the bedding could do with updating as soon of the sheets were very worn and thin.

Rooms in high traffic areas, such as next to elevators are always going to be a little noisier than others. It is to be expected. That said, creating a common area with tables and chairs right next to a bedroom window is poor judgement and inconsiderate to your customers. A customer shouldn't have to ask people not to use an area designated as a common area and hours of use should be posted. Fortunately, the card players quit at 12:30 AM. But as I was due up and on the road ~ 6 AM, this shortened my sleep time considerably, which explains the poor marks for comfort! The hotel was a little more than 1.5 Km from the downtown Clock tower and a little further to the Sat night market and night bazaar. The swimming pool was a welcome treat after a long day of Sightseeing. The room was very basic but clean. The bathroom is tiny...as in taking a shower whilst sitting on the loo.

It's a bit out of the way but near lots of shops and restaurants. The pool is large and clean. Laundry is cheap about $1/kg, staff are helpful and friendly. The new building is great, the older building is adequate but the roosters in the lot behind woke us at 2, 3, etc. Earplugs! Otherwise great value for money.

The place can be challenging to locate at night as you walked to it. Also, the alley/small street to the location is not lit up at night. Nor are surrounding streets. So, being a solo traveler that enjoys walking, I was limited to early arrival or taking a tuk tuk. It has VERY thin walls. You can hear EVERYTHING, which was my disturbing experience. It doesn't offer free breakfast. Room was clean and comfortable.

Gorgeous property well maintained on the outside but not so much on the inside. We stayed in 2 of the rooms near the reception area and walking into them was like walking into a fridge. We asked for an extra blanket at reception which was given to us, but that wasn't near enough to cope with the cold. There is ZERO insulation sound and temperature in these rooms (we could actually have a conversation with the room next door through the walls without needing to raise our voices). The bathroom was more like a freezer and we couldn't shower because the water wasn't hot enough. At night we had to wear all our clothes and even then we weren't able to get more than 2 hours of sleep due to how cold it was. I was travelling with 2 Canadians who are used to cold temperatures and it was too much even for them. We had booked and prepaid for 3 nights but we checked out first thing in the morning. This is northern Thailand where night temperatures go down to below 10C, there's no excuse to keep rooms in this condition. Too bad because otherwise it's a lovely property.
