Holiday Inn Express NEWARK AIRPORT – ELIZABETH by IHG, an IHG Hotel

I checked in wed 9/10 and was early for a death in the family. I don't know his name but there was a gentleman at the desk who was very appreciative of my needs. (Funeral) And got us in a room ASAP. Horrible family day that some people don't know how much the little things help .

This was a great overnight stay as i go into NJ late. Great breakfast next morning that was included.

All things were great for me to stay at this hotel for layover.

Airport shuttle | Breakfast

It all started with the free shuttle at the airport, the driver did several traffic offense and was driving way too fast. Upon arriving at the hotel, we were greeted by a very polite asian gentlemen who give us the key but forgot to mention basic info such as breakfast hours. The room itself is large enough for 4 but some furniture were dirty/ staine quite badly. Then when we tried to take a shower for our family there was no hot water. We called reception and they told us they were aware and it should take a few minutes to repair. After 1h30 of waiting with kids needing to go to bed we gave up and took a cold shower. I asked staff compensation and they said they would speak with management in the following morning. Needless to say there was no follow-up so i will leave this review which highlights our experience. On the pro: Breakfast was good and the returning shuttle driver we took at 7 am was excellent. I was expecting a better hotel based on the reviews i read online but our experience was sub-par. I hope this will help other visitors make a better choice.

Clean property, room clean and comfortable bed , appreciated fridge and coffee machine and microwave in room. However no dining options for dinner, and in room safe for guests, in case we wanted to leave property. Friendly and courteous staff and service.

Hotel added a $100 deposit to my credit card and charged me before I arrived. Expedia site said no additional charges and that I would be charged at the hotel. I also had to pay for a Lyft ride as airport shuttle was full and only ran every 30 minutes

Breakfast was not good. I was very disappointed. The pancakes were raw. Staff seemed to be over worked

The property was extremely good value for the amount paid compared to others on our journey

We needed parking for Ford F250 pickup truck. No problem at all finding adequate parking.

We had a really bad experience. The hotel wasn’t very clean and had a bad smell. We wanted to leave to another hotel the next night. I called the front desk and asked if that was possible. I didn’t mention anything about our issues with the cleanliness. They told me I had to contact expedia. I couldn’t figure out how to contact expedia so we decided to stay. Later that day, we received a phone call from the front desk. At 4pm saying we had to leave immediately because expedia cancelled our second night. I said why would they do that as I didn’t contact them. They said they booked our room and we had to immediately vacate. The next day I noticed we were charged for that second night after the hotel asked us to leave. We went to the hotel the day after and spoke to the manager who also said expedia canceled our stay. The hotel would approve a refund but I have to contact Expedia to get my money back. Beware. We unfortunately also left a few belongings behind and they threw them out. Never had this kind of experience ever before. Would really appreciate a customer service rep from expedia to contact me and refund the money they charged me.

We flew in much earlier than planned and we were able to check in very early for a small fee. We had a great breakfast, nice hot shower and rested all day. It was great! Staff was nice, helped me get a later check out which I always appreciate. My only gripe was some drip stains on the floor. Like something was dripping and dried. It wasn’t a lot but my mind thought the worst of what it could be lol bathrooms needs fans also. But those are nit picky things. Our stay was amazing. Thank you!

Excellent!!!

We normally like this hotel because it’s convenient, clean and has easy access to Deon Kean University. However, this time they placed us in room 334 and the air conditioning unit WAS SO LOUD it ruined our sleep! Also, the bathroom drain took to long to let the water out. Thirdly, my other complaint about this location is that whenever I try to use my “parking” credit card to exit the parking lot, the way they have it coded as a hotel caused my parking credit card to decline. We may have to go back to our other favorite Union/Newark hotel after this stay.
