The Shoal La Jolla Beach

We very much enjoyed our stay. Rooms are very nice, with new modern bathrooms. Staff were super helpful and friendly. Short walk to Windansea Beach, which is gorgeous. Pool and hot tub were fun. Parking no problem. If you want room service, just make sure to ask, as it is not automatic. We look forward to coming back again.

Noisy between the road and other guests--thin walls and floors. Inadequate parking--ended up having to find street parking if I came back after 9 pm. Staff were very kind and professional, and I appreciated being able to rent beach equipment/towels. Overall, it felt like a old converted apartment building, and not sure I'd stay there again.

Great little hotel and convenient walk through La Jolla.

This was a lovely, clean and updated hotel. The service was wonderful, the bed comfortable and it was close to everything. Would love to stay again!

Wish there was an elevator to 3rd floor., but service was excellent and staff very nice. Great location.

Great little spot right down the street from the beach. Cafe Vahik right next door has great coffee and a excellent service.

Walk to Windansea Beach, however need to drive to get to PB, La Jolla Shores, ETC.. some stores nearby. Nice and easy to park there. The minifridge was so loud we unplugged it. Everynight asked the front desk to turn off the gas from the firepit, apparently it was leaking a bit, not a good sign. Lots of potential, but would not return.

We really enjoy staying here however I don’t understand the 15$ to park. We are already paying for staying.

This is obviously an older hotel, but when we opened the door to our room we were pleasantly surprised. The room had been updated nicely and had a large brightly colored sofa that doesn’t fit typical boring hotel room tradition. I am here for it! The room was extremely clean, well stocked with towels, bedding, and basic coffee setup. For reference I am currently staying in a five star hotel and The Shoal La Jolla Beach, was cleaner. There was ample room for our things and for our bags to go without being in our way. The aircon worked wonderfully and kept us comfortable through the hot night, and the family enjoyed the pool. It too was well stocked, clean, and had our family enjoying our time there. All beds including the sofa were comfortable. The only thing I wish we’d been aware of is that the sofa is not a pullout type sofa bed. You remove the large cushions from the back and the sofa itself is the bed (twin bed size). There are sheets and blankets to put over the cushions before sleeping on it. It was large enough that two of the kids (12yo & 6yo) who wanted to be by each other fit at each end without issue. The location is fantastic to be nearby several different beaches and there was a convenience store within a short drive when we had an emergency tummy ache during the night. I had some Amazon packages delivered to the hotel the day prior to our arrival and they were waiting at the desk for us without issue.

The front desk was polite and helpful. I reserved a single for my brother-in-law. The room was around $290. His AC didn't work. He slept in stuffy room and I think if you pay that much, you should have a functioning AC in August. Felt cheated.

Very nice hotel. Room was spacious, clean and bed was comfy. Great location. Excellent coffee shop next door and good restaurants within walking distance.

Wonderful hotel within walking distance to the beach. Brand new room. Beautiful details. We will definitely stay again. Everything was perfect!
