Sendratari Ramayana at Prambanan was one of the most memorable cultural experiences I’ve had in Indonesia. The performance itself is beautifully crafted; the choreography, costumes, and gamelan accompaniment come together in a way that feels both grand and deeply intentional. You don’t need to be familiar with the Ramayana to follow the story; it draws you in naturally.
What makes it truly special, though, is the setting. Watching the performance with the Prambanan temple complex lit up in the background is something else entirely—it adds a layer of weight and magic that no indoor venue could replicate.
For anyone looking to engage meaningfully with Javanese and Indonesian culture, this is as good as it gets. Highly recommended.
