What a great experience overall! My partner and I spent a week in the hotel, and it was wonderful. The staff were all super friendly and attentive, and the owner, Thomas, circulated throughout the property, greeting and chatting with regulars and newbies like us alike and making us feel right at home. The building, property, and rooms are beautiful! It's a historic building with beautiful dark wood and tile work. The rooms are bright and comfortable, the shower was huge, and the water gets HOT! The included breakfast was delicious, and I already miss the gallo pinto!! There's a pool with a jacuzzi (which we used almost nightly) and a gym (we didn't use it, but it is well appointed with a variety of exercise options). The location is great, too - right on the border of Barrio Amon and the city center, and just a few minutes walk to the Atlantic train station, with connections to Cartago and Heredia. Highly, highly recommended. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to San José! Thanks for everything!

Hotel was unique- very cool. Pool area great, breakfast was great. Staff was very helpful. It would have been nice to have a communal fridge on first floor and an ice machine (or access to ice).

Winderful, and very helpful staff. Old, but charming property not in the best neighborhood of San José. Some amenities missing and difficult to provide to guests due to property's age. Not able to use the pool, gym, covered entertainment veranda, but were a nice addition.

I’m currently staying at the Hotel Santo Tomas and it’s a total standout. The building was originally built in 1908, and they’ve done an incredible job maintaining that historic character while keeping everything comfortable. Even though you’re right downtown and close to everything, the property feels like a private oasis. Once you step inside, you completely forget you’re in the middle of a busy city. It’s quiet, incredibly beautiful, and the layout is perfect. The pool area is excellent... very lush and a great place to reset. They also include a solid free breakfast that actually hits the spot. If you want a place with real history and a peaceful vibe right in the heart of San Jose, stay here. I’ll definitely be back.

Really cool historic property right in the thick of it! Thomas, the owner, can tell you all about it; he and his staff were top notch. The pool/jacuzzi is a super fun aspect of the place.

I am not sure what others have rated the property on. The ratings seem very misleading! The bathroom was not clean and needs some serious repairs. There wasn’t a full-service kitchen and/or bar. The breakfast was extremely basic. I did not like the neighborhood either. Seemed to have a lot of homeless population. If you can spend 20-25 dollars more then find a better accommodation. I wouldn’t stay at this property again.

Well get and we’ll run historical hotel in central San Jose. Safe lock up parking and only 20 minute run to the airport in the morning. Spacious clean rooms - stay upstairs at the back. Nice pool to cool off!
