Great hotel - we’ll be back

Lovely spot.

Disappointing bedrooms, weird furniture, lot of road noise and street lights through poor quality curtains. Air conditioning not working in one room, coffee machine not working in another. Tiny towels and not much hot water. Expensive for the lack of quality in the bedrooms. Staff where good and the cocktail bar, lounge and dinning room where nice. Would not stay again

Lovely hotel and great place to have a drink before venturing out.

We absolutely loved our stay at No. 1! The hotel is beautiful, warm, and inviting. The rooms were clean and cozy. The staff were very kind and accommodating. We also enjoyed the spa and restaurant (Pearly Cow). We weren’t informed about the pantry when we checked in, so make sure you ask about it if you stay.

The location of the property is a 15 min walk from train station and a 10 min walk into town. Very accessible. Quiet and safe surroundings. The main positive of this hotel is the staff - friendly, polite and knowledgeable. Great bartenders and a lovely room to sit and drink. I would recommend the restaurant - food was great. Def a place I would stay at next time I’m in York.

We had the best stay for our 3rd wedding anniversary. The hotel went above and beyond to make us feel so welcome. It was our first anniversary since we became parents and the hotel were amazing with our baby girl. The room was perfect and so child friendly. The hotel provided a cot bed and also had a tepee play area for our little one to enjoy. We are at the pearly cow restaurant next to the hotel and it was great food and service too. Thank you for an amazing stay to all the fantastic staff at the hotel and we already can’t wait to return in the future for another visit.

AMAZING! But……. The hotel is simply stunning; the decor, the atmosphere, the works. It is just gorgeous. The rooms are so tasteful and cosy, and the bar area and lounge were gorgeous for an evening drink. The staff were all unbelievably helpful and friendly and we loved the addition of the pantry for an evening snack. The location is ideal for walking right into the centre of town for food and drinks. We didn’t eat at the Pearly Cow but the menu looked beautiful too. Now for the but… The walls are paper thin. You can hear absolutely everything the guests in the next room are doing. I totally understand that it is an old building, but I do think it’s a shame that steps have not been taken to ensure maximum privacy & comfort, and soundproofing for example. If a cosy night’s sleep that is relaxing is what you are after, I would really strongly consider taking this information on board. Our night was so disturbed we did have quite a poor night’s sleep sadly. We spoke to reception and the manager was great in how she handled our complaint. I do think it is such a shame that such a dampener has been left on our stay. I would maybe have thought twice about booking had I known this would be the experience we would have. Sadly I have to rate the hotel as poor because ultimately, a hotel is for sleeping, and unfortunately we did not get much of that.

Lovely boutique hotel. Walking distance to all the main attractions. Love the complimentary pantry!

All staff very professional and friendly. Great breakfast. Very ecclectic property with many stairs and winding ways (seven fire doors from lift to room !)Lights in room very difficult to sort. No functional mirror in bathroom. Coffee machine in room didn’t work.

Loved this hotel. Funky vibe, quiet, close to downtown. Staff was incredibly friendly and helpful.

Great hotel! Well located for walking around the city. Beautiful inside, massive comfy bed and nice bar downstairs. Staff all very friendly. Loved the record player in our room too.

Great spot for exploring Yorkshire.
