The Palace Hotel is an imposing and very grand institution, doing its best to keep afloat in the c21. It feels like it has cut its costs - particularly staffing - to the bone. But it still gives a feeling of granduer. The food is good. Pity the coffee etc machines don't work too well!

Hotel looks stunning from afar, but everything is decidedly average at best. Everything is very basic, food is boring with limited choices at both breakfast and in the evening. Rooms are clean with basic amenities. Probably wouldn’t stay again as nicer places in the area including Premier Inn

Hotwl is in a great location. Some parts a bit tired but clean apart from rubbish in done spa lockers. Breakfast was really nice. Main issue was that 'everything is extra'. Cqr parkng, WiFi, use of pool and spa. In the end though that worked well because we had the pool and gym pretty much to ourselves. Lovely deep tissue massage!

This was my fifth stay at the Palace Hotel, I also go to Buxton Opera House to see a show. We booked dinner and breakfast at the hotel.Check in was great, very pleasant receptionist. Our evening meal last night was lovely, great service from a pleasant waitress and the meal was very tasty! I had a good night's sleep in room 301,it has has a new bathroom suite with a lovely shower, I had no noise disturbances from other guests going into their rooms. Self service breakfast was great! I absolutely love walking down the grand staircase. It's a gorgeous hotel and I love when I get a room with a view of the Buxton hills!

I was working in Bakewell this morning, approximately 12 miles from Buxton. I know Buxton very well, but have never previously stayed at The Palace. Absolutely fabulous authentic Victorian Hotel, beautifully restored, very comfortable room and great value. I will definitely stay again.

A comfortable stay in a very nice hotel. If you have problems walking, ensure you get a room close to the lifts, as we had a considerable walk including stairs to our room. I would prefer parking to be included in the cost of the stay.

This is a lovely old lady from the start of travel by train in the Victorian period. The main state rooms are remarkable and the situation of the hotel looking out over Buxton is wonderful. I stayed in one of the cheaper rooms, it was well appointed and everything was clean and comfortable. At the price it was very satisfactory, I can recommend it

We stayed one night and were glad we didn’t stay longer. Upon arrival, signs stated parking cost £5, and as guests, we expected it to be free, but it wasn’t. All hotel facilities, like the pool and gym, cost extra. Our room was upstairs, small, with two single beds pushed together to mimic a double, and a confusing layout of corridors. We didn’t eat at the hotel, choosing instead to visit local pubs and restaurants. Before dinner, we asked Jane, the supervisor, for two extra pillows and a bathmat. She offered a hand towel as a bathmat but had only one pillow available. We asked her to find another pillow, promising to return later. When we came back around 10 pm, she only had one pillow, explaining she couldn’t take one from the 13 empty rooms because of hotel policy. We found this ridiculous for a 4-star hotel and asked to see the manager. Jane said David had sourced the pillows, but the process was unnecessary and frustrating. Overall, the experience was disappointing with poor service, hidden charges, and lack of basic amenities.

We went with friends. Had a great time in buxton. The hotel is very grand looking. Love the oldie worldie look. Breakfast was good. If I had one thing to say I would say the bedroom was slightly tired looking. But we was hardly in it, but if we were staying longer I would have liked it a bit better. Pretty basic. But overall we would definitely stay here again. Great location.

The charm of the hotels of this brand is history. Mostly youth do not understand these establishments, so visitors are mostly older people.

For how much we paid the hotel it’s been so disappointing. Check in at 4pm and check out at 10am not even 24 hour stay. One towel to share between two people, no bath mat, the bed had human hair in it and it’s an out dated old place. Honestly travel lodge would have been, cleaner, nicer and cheaper. So disappointing.

Absolutely beautiful, grand hotel with excellent staff. I booked a compact double room and we had a spacious, clean family room, with comfortable beds. However, the bathroom was long and slim. We had to side step to get past the bath to the toilet, and when sat on the toilet your knees touch the bath. We also used the spa facilities which were a nice addition. However, we had to wait at the reception desk for over 10 mins for a member of staff to show up. There were only communal changing facilities, the hairdryers were very tired, plenty of things out of order (sink, shower) and there was a cracked drain at the side of the pool. Despite this we had a nice overnight stay and would come back after the hotel and spa has some renovations/maintenance.

The pool on the low side had dirty tile, I rubbed it to see if it was discolored but it came off and the floor on the low side was dirty also. floor from pool to include the changing room foor was dirty. The bar service was very friendly but the food. First they had to check if they had the food, then the food: Lunch-salmon sandwich with cream chees and cucumber came without margerine instead of cream cheese. the salad had some brown pieces which I removed, my sons ham and chees sandwich was great. Dinner- my son's pizza was GBP 15 and tasted like a bad frozen pizza, we didn't expect a fresch pizza but at least a decent frozen one. The best part was the crust, the sauce tasted like tomato paste not sauce. my pita with hummus was so hard that I couldn't bite it (I still have my own teeth), they brought it back and the pita was fresh and soft and was good, I am not sure why they covered the hummus with rocket and then put the pita on top. The side/house salad I orderd had some slimy dark leaevs which I didn't eat. So quality of the food was very poor. After that experience we deceided against breakfast at the hotel and went to Noonology which was exceptional. The bet was very hard, and sleep was painful. Good location, Parking is not free it is GBP 5 per 24 hrs. Pool and Bar service was very friendly. Out of the 3 front desk staff I talked to 1 was very friendly but the two blond staff members (no offence anyone) appeared to be bothered when asked question or checking in.
