We had a very good 2 night stay at Le Grand Hôtel de l'Espérance in Lisieux. The room was basic but very clean and practical. They still provided a kettle and tea and coffee. A mini fridge would have been nice though. The bathroom had shower only but it had a good amount of storage space. We had one dinner in their restaurant which was good and good value for money. The service was good and efficient, even though the restaurant was full and only one person serving. The breakfast was excellent. They had 2 Camembert style cheeses, Emmental, spicy sausages as the hot option, hard boiled eggs, good quality cold cooked ham, good grilled ham, yoghurt, croissants, 2 types of homemade cake, fruit salad, and one of the best apple pies we have ever eaten. The selection was constantly replenished. The people at the reception very friendly and professional. If we were to visit Lisieux again, we would stay there again.

Great location and convenient to the restaurants and places of interest we went to. It was the right hotel for our overnight stay in Lisieux.

A decent hotel, though rather run down. However, it does NOT have air conditioning. And the temperatures in July in Lisieux were sweltering. Would never have booked this if I have known it did not have air conditioning. Room was also expensive for the quality of it…

Everyone was very nice and our room had a great view of the Basilica. We enjoyed our stay!

We did not have a good experience from check-in (room not ready), to when we wanted to have dinner at the restaurant (no space available) and finally when we wanted to sleep, unable due to the noise from neighbours. Definitely not soundproof rooms. Our duvet had velcro in the middle to link 2 single duvets together.

The hotel was convenient for our stay. Very clean and the rooms were lovely.

The hotel had all of the required amenities: the rooms were small but renovated to a modern standard, the breakfast was more than adequate, and the lounge was a nice touch for meeting and socializing. I like using stairs when possible and I found them somewhat dirty at times. Overall, it was a pleasant stay.

This is one of the most pleasant hotels I have ever stayed in. The staff is friendly and helpful. The bathrooms of the rooms have fantastic bathtubs. The restaurant is a charming space with excellent food and great waiters.
