This hotel is simple & clean & had the most necessary amenities. It is not luxurious but comfortable & the qualities below explain why we would happily stay there again. It is a perfectly located hotel within a couple hundred meters from dozens of great cafes & restaurants, numerous shops & some of the most iconic & historically significant sites. There was a photo opportunity every few steps. even the opera was less than half a mile away! The hotel itself is simple...not luxurious but was very comfortable & kept meticulous with the daily maid service. Staff was very friendly, some were very helpful too. Reasonable rates & location make this place a winner for us!

How often do you get to stay in a hotel in a building started in the 1200's. The place was obviously quirky but that is what you would expect. However, everything worked and the staff were great.

This is a basic hotel with a good bed, clean room and a great shower. It's also right in the heart of Siena and the staff are wonderful. The breakfast is not lavish but more than adequate (coffee, croissant, butter, jam). It is very cheap for what you get and I loved staying there.

Good hotel, great location, no lift to my knowledge (but could be wrong), nice spacious room, plug by bed was either a Type E or type M though - the only European plug socket in the room was on the other side of the room. Lovely staff, great view of the town. Wool blankets slightly uncomfortable but ok.

Pros: great location, just a couple of blocks from bus station, main plaza, grocery store, deli with great pizza by the slice, excellent gelato shop. Cons: Shabby and dirty. Bits of stuff on the floor from last guests, sheets had some kind of lint/debris on them. Part of the shower stall was taped together. Very noisy, with partiers making noise all night and I could hear the guy in the next room snoring during the night (as if he was right in my room). I just put up with it because of the great location and the fact that I was only there a couple of days. Next time, I would spend a little more money for a better place.

Located in historic district of Siena. This location from all sites and activities was very good. Gets very loud on Saturday night. Breakfast is very basic.

Hotel appears very clean but we had to choose between a room that smelled of stale cigarette smoke and another that had excess bleach odor to mask mildew odor. Hallways were fine. Previous night was full due to an holiday. Breakfast is bread/jam or cereal/milk and coffee. Overall, it's okay but I would stay somewhere else next time.

Great location to see Siena and Tuscany. 45 min bus ride to Florence and San Gimingiano. Many wineries close by. Near free parking and piazza del Compo.

wifi is not working in the lasts rooms; of course this is not something new or an issue they weren't aware of; so the hostal should guarantee the same services for all the rooms.

Last minute booking found us at Canon d'oro in the heart of historical area of Siena. The rooms are basic but very clean. The breakfast was pretty basic. Croissants came out of a plastic bag so that wasn't so great but did the job. For one night this hotel met our needs.

Stayed at the Cannon one night on the way from Florence to Rome with the family. In retrospect should have done Siena as a day trip from Florence, much as I love Siena (I excavated at an archaeological site near Siena in 1977). The Cannon room and bath were basically ok, just old and hardly worth the cost.

The hotel is very well located. The staff was friendly and efficient.Tv un the room did not work, but I was not counting on that. It got a bit cold at night but the staff explained they were not allowed to turn the heating on at night before the end of the month ( apparently there's some sort of regulation), but it's Italy so never too cold. Breakfast was simple but coffee was good. Would recommend for short budget stay.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Cannon d'Oro and recommend it to anyone who wants to stay inside the traffic-free section of Siena. The location, relative to Piazza del Campo, is superb, only about a 5 minute walk. Although the street below the hotel can get a bit noisy at times, due to night time revelers, we didn't mind and viewed it as something of a "cultural bonus." We have been to Siena three times and will definitely look into staying at the Cannon d'Oro, if we're fortunate enough to have a fourth trip.

We spent a sleepless night here in August. It was very hot in Italy these days. There was no AC in the hotel and our room was facing the street. In order to get some air we had to open the window. The street is narrow, busy, noisy, everything around is stone and one could hear the echo of people walking, talking, laughing and shouting until 3-4 am as if it was up in the room. There was something like a TV/monitor? in the room which didn't work. The breakfast was ridiculous: instant coffee, packaged pastries and cheap cereal. The room was clean and the linens were immaculate. Overall, for the price we paid, we could have found a better place.
