Rooms are large but overall they are tired and need updating. Limited menu in the restaurant for dinner and the breakfast area is like a sauna. Additionally the key card stopped working every day which meant I was up and down three floors (no lift). Positives are nice staff, the food is good and there are lots of hills for those that like walking.

Outdated run down. Pictures must be from ten years ago. Very disappointing.

This is an older hotel, which added to the charm. We found the room with 2 twin beds to be roomy and comfortable with a sitting area of 2 chairs and tea unit quite nice. . The bathroom was clean and large. I'd stay again!

Stayed 2 nights room only so can't comment on breakfast. We were given a complimentary upgrade to a large room on the top floor overlooking the hills to the side which was nice. It had a very large bathroom with bath. Room very comfortable with a separate tap/sink for water - we slept very well. We ate in the restaurant the first night and the food was very good and reasonably priced. Service was very friendly and started well but unfortunately there was a very long wait after the main course where we were not offered deserts so we gave up and left. Three Thatchers ciders on draft was nice! Location great with large car park and bus stop to Edinburgh centre just down the steps on the road beside the hotel - frequent buses taking about half hour. Overall a very good stay.

staying for business purposes, I always prefer an independent hotel over a 'chain'. Braid Hills is full of character, in a tremendous setting. The breakfast was outstanding value and quality! There was an issue at dinner, where the restaurant staff were at times overwhelmed. The Manager kindly addressed this to my satisfaction. It would not prevent me from returning on a weekly basis for the next 2 months.

This hotel is a very old building, renovated (like many in Scotland). We had the family room, which was spacious and comfortable. The mini-fridge and sink were very handy to wash and store fruits and vegetables for snacks. Bus stop to Edinburgh Castle is 1 minute walk. Breakfast was varied. Missed the porridge though.

In general the stay was excellent, the service was great, the staff were friendly, the room was a good size and kept really clean. The only thing letting the hotel down is the decor. It needs a lot of work done on the threadbare carpets and the walls and ceilings need fresh wallpaper/paint, as neither seem to have had any attention for a long time. Other than that I couldn't fault the time spent at the hotel.

Comfortable stay. Helpful staff . Hotel looks like it needs a bit of touch ups but I know it's a challenging time financially. We enjoyed our 3rd stay there.

Plenty of Parking and ideal to leave the car and use the bus service into the city centre. The bus stop is right outside. Friendly service and lovely view of the castle

Good area for the hotel . Bus right into center is easy and parking is nice . The rooms are nosy and not worth the money . Our wardrobe had dirt in it which made our clothes dirty. Breakfast was average and did not have much selection . Staff were helpful and nice .

We stayed at the Braid Hills Hotel, Edinburgh on 22/08/25 – 23/08/25 (rooms 224 and 228) for one night, paying £483.82. Sadly, the stay was extremely disappointing and nothing like the clean, modern rooms shown on Expedia. The rooms had stained and peeling headboards, stained furniture, marked walls, peeling skirting boards, and lampshades falling off. Both rooms had an unpleasant damp smell. The mattresses were lumpy, indented as if heavily used, and caused back and neck pain. Bathrooms had leak marks, peeling ceilings with holes, brown-stained shower heads, mould, anti-slip mats covered in black mould and hair, and rusty heated towel rails. The kettle was filled with limescale, and we even found hair on one bed. We checked in late with a child, so couldn’t raise this immediately, but I took photographs of everything. For nearly £500, this was unacceptable, uncomfortable, and very far from what Expedia advertised. Strongly advise others to avoid until rooms are properly maintained.
