Put in beach view got a roof

Old Victorian hotel that needs some work. We were placed in a small back room that even though was a non smoking room smelt of smoke - so much so all our clothes have gone straight in wash at home. The bathroom had dirt on floors, walls, soap scum mark around sink - didn’t appear clean at all, yet fresh towels etc. Horrible stains noted on side of cabinets, sweets stuck to back of door and carpet, chocolate melted onto desk in room. Have pictures of all these. Good job we were in and out in one night. Appreciate age of building meant it could do some updating but expect it at least to be clean.

Rooms were a bit dated, fan not working in room, (asked staff 3 times, but no replacement and as there is no aircon, was extremely humid and didn’t sleep well at all. Wouldn’t stay again.

Lovely big comfy bed. Whilst the room was clean and comfortable the decor was a bit tired. It was a hot day and the only method of cooling was a small fan and we couldnt open the windows. Also the curtain runners need sorting as we couldnt close one of the curtains properly Staff were friendly and efficient and breakfast was very good.

Really enjoyed our 1 night stay, lovely room and view, really welcoming and friendly staff, will definitely be back when back in the area ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

We stayed in room 225, it was allround good, but its in ergent need of some venterlation and air-con. Due to the windows not opening, there was a fan in room but of no use it just cerculated hot air around the room.

Room was very poorly cleaned holes in walls Dust everywhere Cobwebs over windows which look like theyve never been cleaned Headboard had what looked like bodily fluids over it which resulted us to cleaning with a towel. Dead skin on bathroom floor Bathroom was dirty overall Room definitely didnt look like it was cleaned Looks lovely when you enter hotel but rooms are a different story Wouldn't off paid 120 paid for the stay. The staff are lovely and cant fault them.

We thought the hotel had improved from last time we came staff was very helpful and pleasant

The royal hotel was absolutely fantastic, clean hotel, clean room and everything you need. We even booked the facilities for a £6 each day pass which included gym, steam roo , sauna and pool which was brilliant ... The only 2 niggles and they are only niggles was sauna wasn't hot just mildly warm and the pool was really really salty, not with chlorine but salt and tasted absolutely vile if you got it in your mouth and swim gear ended up being white as there was that much in the pool

On arrival my husband was given a door key card not the actual key that was actually needed. He was stuck outside the room on the second floor because had had all the luggage and didn't want to lug it back downstairs. Room was very hot with no view but fortunately had a fan. Bed was comfortable and TV reception was very poor. Best I can do was our stay was 2 star.🙂‍↕️

The hotel has lots of character and the evening entertainment was simple but enjoyable. Prices for drinks was a little pricy but what you would expect in a tourist place. We had a bit of a challenge with the rooms booked into a room and it was already occupied when we walked in this happened twice then we finally found a room that was empty. The room was clean at first glance bed very comfortable. But the bathroom smelt of sewage and there was thick black water coming up through shower plughole when we ran any water which kind of ruined the stay. Also the cuos in the room where dirty and kettle needed a descaled on it. Other than that for a quick stay it was pleasant and a very nice view over to the harbour.

For what it was the room was adequate, but unfortunately the stay was unpleasant due to the heat in the room which was on floor 5. This was on a day that was only moderately warm. There was a fan but as the windows could only be opened a small amount it was impossible to cool leading to really poor night's sleep.

We stayed in a family room that was not level! There was one fan between 2 rooms and it was boiling in the room, the building was under construction, we eat our breakfast with cover sheets behind us. Advertised the balcony area but no way to sit there with a drink! Location spot on rest was not

Stayed for one night and everything was fine. Location is good, near the tram to the beach, gardens and town. The public areas in the Hotel are nice and it has an impressive lobby area. The bar is good but we didn't use the restaurant so cannot comment. We had a twin room which was clean but the mattresses need replacing and need a choice of pillows. I think for the price it was adequate but maybe needs room investment.

Please avoid the hotel. The room and corridors were completely dirty and full of mould and smelt of damp. Dead bugs, cobwebs, black mould and full of dust. And it looks like the electric safety for the alarm was overdue the compliance checks as the sticker started next test is due in 2024. I spoke with the staff twice about the issues but was completely dismissed and they started they would send someone to attend the room to investigate and deep clean. When we returned their ‘Deep clean’ was to replace the towels - which when I decided I was going to take I shower I found the new towels had a brown stain on them. I then returned to the staff at the front desk and they started they were sorry and would send a new person to clean the room for a second time. When I returned yet again no cleaning just new towels. Dead bugs, cobwebs, mould and dust had not been touched. I am extremely disappointed as I thought this was a well known chain. Due to being out for most of the days I had no chance to actually complain more or ask for a refund as was there for a wedding and helping with the event. I do not expect this standard when I paid around £600. I have photo evidence of all the claims I have made. I will be trying to contact the hotel etc to make a formal complaint as I believe I should be refunded as to be honest the room was unsafe.

We had dinner and breakfast both very good. Staff were very helpful and the lobby is amazing. Only drawback the rooms are a little tired but would definitely go back

Room was filthy and parking was difficult - quite a distance from hotel - breakfast ok

Fir the money, the room was poor.Dated bathroom with handle hanging off, toilet seat would not stay up without being held, and bath which belongs in the 60's..very disappointed.

Good sized room and hotel in a great location.
