We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at The Screen Hotel. The hotel has a unique character and atmosphere that made our visit memorable. We especially loved the restaurant—the dinner was truly outstanding and worthy of a five-star rating. The food, presentation, and service were all exceptional. We highly recommend both the hotel and its restaurant to anyone looking for a special experience.

We stayed in Kyoto for just a few days. We wanted to be close to transit, shopping, restaurants but out of the main streets that were always busy. This offered the perfect combination. Our room was spacious with a lounge area complete with a record player and a variety of records to choose from - great for rest periods. The hotel staff were friendly, kind and the most helpful we experienced in our travels across Japan. Will return here if we ever visit Kyoto again.

Realistically, for most people, this hotel will probably give you the biggest room you'll get in Japan. We had a room with a large, low, bed, two armchairs and a table and a good size wardrobe to keep things organised, as well as the room having a lot of free space to organise ourselves. It was a genuinely stunning room too - sort of traditional looking but with modern conveniences. The bathroom was also huge, with a shower and a jacuzzi bath. The layout of the hotel is a little bit odd - our room was technically the same floor as the road but the way you're meant to go involves going to the basement level, through reception and up some stairs (there's a shortcut through a door marked staff only which you may end up nipping through if you're on that floor...) - there was a rooftop bar but it was closed when we tried it. Staff were all very nice and incredibly helpful. The included breakfast (we went for western style) was varied and delicious. Location wise I would say it's pretty good - you're not in the hustle and bustle of downtown Kyoto but it's very walkable and there's a bus route nearby from Gion. There's a metro station roughly 10 mins walk down the side of the imperial palace grounds. Laundry is service only, no machine but if you need simple washing facilities there's a good laundrette about mins away that takes around an hour - leave your clothes and walk around the national park. Overall I'd definitely stay here again.

One of the most beautiful hotel rooms I’ve ever stayed in. Want to come back just to see all the other designs. Great location not in a major tourist areas, but still very walkable and an easy busy to Fushimi Inari and Arashiyama would 100% recommend.

Amazing hotel! It was way above our expectations, the rooms are very large and super comfy. The hotel gives a super relaxed vibe, and everyone from the hotel staff is super lovely, helpful and welcoming. The hotel is within walking distance from most attractions in Kyoto, and within ~20-30min public transport from the train station and further attractions. Can’t recommend enough!

Situated in a beautiful and quieter part of Kyoto but well connected to the main sites, bus stop nearby and subways within reasonable walking distance. Rooms was super spacious and staff were very friendly and helpful throughout! We had the breakfast everyday via room service which was very good and overall just really enjoyed our stay here, would stay again!

Staff came by everyday to refill amenities and drinks. Overall it was a great stay with a very spacious room, and very few issues which wasn’t worth mentioning to the staff.

This is one of the most unique places we’ve ever stayed in. Every room in The Screen is done by a different designer and the one we got was incredibly spacious by Japanese standards. The room felt luxurious with its simple yet stunning design, comfortable bed, floor-to-ceiling windows, and great amenities. The Screen is located in a quieter part of the city but is only a quick walk to bus stops on Kawaramachi. We really enjoyed our stay and can't wait to go back.

This is a very small boutique hotel, but do not let the size of the property fool you. The rooms are absolutely massive by Japanese standards and honestly larger than many rooms I have stayed in across North America. The value for the price was exceptional and far beyond what I expected when booking. Our room had apparently only been newly completed or renovated about a month before our stay, and it showed. Everything felt brand new, spotless, and thoughtfully designed. The aesthetic was a beautiful blend of modern luxury and minimalist Japanese design, with warm wood tones, soft lighting, clean architectural lines, and a calm Zen-like atmosphere that fit Kyoto perfectly. The bathroom was fantastic, spacious, modern, and very high-end feeling. The overall room layout felt sophisticated and relaxing rather than just another generic hotel room. Breakfast each morning was excellent with a very good selection and high quality food. The staff throughout our stay were welcoming, professional, and helpful. The location was also ideal. It was easy to access Kyoto’s major attractions while still feeling quiet and authentic rather than overly touristy. Overall, this hotel completely exceeded expectations. Between the incredible room size, thoughtful design, excellent breakfast, and outstanding value, I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting Kyoto.

Nice staff, large spacious rooms with designs of Japan. Breakfast was decent as it was included, just wish you were able to choose what you’d like versus the set menu provided (for example ask me how I would like my eggs) Location is perfect, 10 minute walk from subway stations, Starbucks, and shopping areas.

The room we had in the Screen was great. It was huge, had a shower and jacuzzi bath, a loving room area with a tv and free mini bar, as well as a lovely big bed. The staff were increasingly friendly and useful, and there was also a breakfast each morning. The area the hotel was located in was just near the park and was on a road full of lovely shops, about a 15-20 minute stroll into central Kyoto.

I rarely write reviews. But this was an amazing experience. The staff went above and beyond the accommodations. If you are in Kyoto and want to stay in a location that is accessible this is your spot.

Delicious and huge breakfast. Close to train station and shops, including our favorite Ippodo tea store, which is the complimentary tea at the Screen hotel. Attentive staffs always eager to help
