Booked for two nights but only stayed for one. We thought we had booked the Black Boy for our stay but where allocated a room in another building. Not great given the parking is a fair distance from the building and as we were touring Wales so had a fair amount of luggage. Having to carry our luggage up three flights of stairs didn’t add to our relaxation. We freshened up and went for a drink and something to eat back in the black boy. As with many pubs the staff appeared very young and were more interested in chatting then serving. We ordered food which was pleasant but the background music was heavy rock which didn’t match our expectations for an ambient experience. We asked for the music to be changed but was told it wasn’t something they could do. We decided to try another pub which was a shame as the Black Boy certainly did have charm but seemed to miss its potential. Apparently on a Monday most pubs and restaurants are closed so we decided on an early night. The room, possibly because it was at the top of the building, was uncomfortably warm. There was a portable air con unit which did a little to bring down the temperature. We found the room to be clean and recently decorated but the bed was very uncomfortable. After a restless sleep we decided that one night was enough and we cut short our visit by one night. When we checked out we explained that the bed was uncomfortable but this was practically ignored. Overall the black boy didn’t live up to our expectations.

Inn is perfectly situated within the walls of Caernarfon Castle, convenient to shops, restaurants and bars. Staff are uniformly friendly and welcoming. My room (#34) was in an old building but had been completely modernized inside, including the bathroom. Room was immaculate and had plenty of well-located electrical outlets. Bed and linens were comfortable. Couldn't find a thermostat but HVAC seemed to be centrally controlled. It was nice and cozy by day and cooled down by bedtime; ditto for the heated towel rack. Breakfast was tasty and came quickly, accompanied by a big smile. Cold items were help-yourself and hot foods cooked to order. Dining room breathed history, as did the bar. Dinner was piping hot and tasty.

Nice facilities in an older historic building. Stairs are a bit tricky for 60+ and suitcases.

The room was lovely. Beware of low beams if you’re tall. The bed was very comfy, pillows a bit hard, the bathroom was spotless. Stayed in Room 24 at the top and a fan was provided which was great and it’s a spacious room. The way the bed is positioned is a pain if you’re sleeping on the right but no head bangs! The tea and coffee was topped up every day. We really enjoyed our stay and would recommend.

The wonderful Black Boy Inn was everything and more than I expected from a 500+ yr old. The bedroom and bathroom was spacious clean and modern, but with a feel of nostalgia in its furnishing. The food was generous and good honest home-style cooking. More than satisfactory I would recommend this Inn. The only issues was with the parking arrangement and the Wifi was not so reliable.

Ive been staying here on business for about 7 years now and i keep coming back, so it must be doing something right. My only criticisms would be that the quality and service at breakfast dont match that of the evening and the parking is a bit tight. These two things aside its spot on and I'd definitely recommend 👌

This place is a gem full of old world historic context, with gorgeous, lush hanging flower baskets adorning the front to greet you as you walk from the cobblestoned street. Eat at their festive outdoor seating or in a quaint interior. Staff helpful. Rooms available in a number of different buildings within the site. Very nice room but no elevator to upper floors in our building. Perfect place to stay to visit Caenarfon Wales, such a great walled town with one of the best castles in Wales nicely presented, several historic flag-lined streets with nice shops and eateries. Great base to visit nearby attractions such as Welsh Historic Railway, the quaint seaside village of Cricceith, and pleasant city plaza and boat tour of the Menai Strait and views of the castle.

Difficult getting to the one side of the bed due to sloping ceiling. Room otherwise comfortable but very warm. Food very good.

This is a great hotel to stay at. The locality is top notch. Only comment would be the bar staff on the night we stayed. They seemed to be particularly rude

Hotel is is charming and very old with a lot of character and in a great location . All staff except 1 barman were helpful and friendly . Our room was very hot and dark and also very noisy as over the main bar and entrance door there was no way round this so we didn’t sleep well at all . Other rooms may not have this problem but ours certainly did .

If you’re looking for a historic experience while visiting the castle, you can’t get better than this Inn. It’s obviously been modernized, but eating downstairs has such a tavern feel to it. The portions are huge and the food is delicious especially the welsh pie and soups. Within the castle walls, you’ll have an array of local shops and pubs to frequent after touring the castle. Enjoy a walk along the water. As others have mentioned, there are stairs and it can be a bit of a maze to get to your room. I was worried but this actually did not bother me. As long as you can lift your suitcase up stairs, you’ll be fine.
