Nice budget hotel, bit tired in places but fairly clean. Really helpful and friendly staff - organised and airport transfer super quick and allowed me to check in early. There is a bit of road noise but it's not a particularly busy road late at night.

The staff was really good and spoke very good english. The breakfast was just coffee, juice, toast and some type of sliced meat, but it was fine. The room was disappointing; no refrigerator, no coffee pot, basically just the beds and a small table. The beds were ok, the pillows were shot.

Receptionist had us wait outside for about 45 minutes. First he said there was no reservation to my prebooked reservation and then he said no rooms and then some rooms popped up. Was a disappointing first impression and not how clients to a hotel should be treated. Once we were in, everything was in order. Room was clean and comfy, TV too small, breakfast is very mediochre. Due to covid, everything is closed inside. MEDIOCHRE

The hotel was of acceptable standard and well located, with an adequate breakfast. But the desk staff completely mis-handled the 19% IVA tax, so I definitely cannot recommend them. I contacted them twice beforehand about IVA handling (no reply) and then told the desk person at check-in that I was a foreigner. My Spanish isn't great but she said the price listed and charged had excluded IVA, so I left the matter until I had a chance to double-check. The Hotels.com confirmation clearly stated that the price "includes taxes and fees", meaning that the IVA deduction should have been applied. So I showed this to the desk manager, Andreina, on checkout. With this evidence, she agreed that the price we'd been charged should be reduced by "$12" - which she said she would refund to our card the next day. Unfortunately, this did not happen. When I emailed Andriena at the end of our travels she claimed the price on the listing didn't include IVA. I reminded her of our discussion at the desk and sent a screenshot of the Hotels.com price page showing the "includes...taxes" wording. That was a week ago - no reply at all. This is very poor behaviour and very different from our experience in other places in Chile. I see that there have been other reviews of Hotel Nippon mentioning issues with IVA. Simply put - if you don't want to handle it properly, then don't advertise misleading prices which imply that it is included. There are other, more honest, places to stay in Santiago.

Room was extremely small, no complimentary drinking water, gave unnecessary concern about missing PID.

Convenient location and good breakfast. Staff are friendly. The shower door seems not sealed well, which was leaking water.

I have mixed feelings about this hotel. Location is fine and within walking distance to lots of Santiago attractions. After being initially charged an extra 19% tax for paying in Chilean peso (reception said in English it was 1.19% so probably something lost in translation) hotel did finally let me switch to $US payment to avoid the tax after initially refusing that request. My understanding is that foreigners don’t need to pay that tax if hotel copies your immigration paperwork and has applied for exception for hotel with government. Beds are very comfortable and room is spacious. Bathrooms do need an update and some electricity switches weren’t working in room. Breakfast is OK but bread was hard as a riock. Don’t rely on reception calling you a taxi on departure. When I asked, they were going to call someone from far away and ‘pray that they would come’. We ended up walking down the street with suitcases and had a cab in 3 minutes. If you are looking for a basic place then hotel is fine, but we will look elsewhere in future.

Nice and helpful staff. The hotel needs some TLC. In my room it was difficult to mix cold and hot water and the bath drain didn't work properly. Having stayed in other locations in Santiago I have seen better value for money.

The hotel has super location, close to all major attractions: Plaza de Armas, Cerro Santa Lucia, Cerro San Cristobal. It is a small hotel, but it has all required facilities, the rooms are clean, the breakfast is ok. We had to switch rooms because of pipe noise, but the staff was very accommodating. And they have free parking if you travel by car!!!

Apart from the fact that the hotel had misplaced our reservation (they had room and accommodated us), it was as expected and as reviewed. Small room but nice folks and OK continental breakfast.
