Hotel first: Basiiani Hotel is a marvel in a town once called the 'Shame of Italy'. It is a hotel that is comprised of several rooms carved into caves that used to be people's homes. It is awesome. The decor, beds, bathroom and amenities all top notch. The staff friendly and the buffet breakfast was great. Highly recommended. Now the town of Matera.... you must go. Truly out of this world and worth every adjective of beauty.

Excellent location and friendly staffs, wonderful breakfast!! Shuttle service was excellent. I want to special thank for giussepe and front manager. They provide us breakfast earlier.

What a great, unique stay! The staff was great! We were picked up at the off location parking lot (there is no room at the hotel, it’s not an issue at all, the hotel is great with directions and pickup). We were told of things to see and had help with dinner reservations. The room itself was clean, comfortable and one of a kind. The history of the town is very interesting and if you are in this area a stay overnight is a must.

Wonderful place to stay to be part of the stassi experience, have amazing views across the gravina, and still be relatively peaceful in terms of not being in the middle of the tourist tracks.

Astounding area in Sassi, Matera

Location, location, location….👍 Room and facilities are awesome. The only issue, there is limited shuttle as there is no parking around the hotel, so one has to wait. But other than that, everything was beautiful!

The staff, service, breakfast and views were out of this world!! Not sure what I did to get a room that opens up to the amazing view of the caves across the ravine. Highly recommend and will definitely be back!

Excellent room/apartment built into rock Great view outside towards the caves opposite Room well equipped no windows apart from the doors at entrance so not a lot of natural light but with so much to do you don’t spend too much time in room 😀

The staff is very accommodating. They told us what places to see and how to get there. They also made reservation for restaurant and provided transportation to and from parking. The location has wonderful view and the breakfast is fantastic.

The property is perfectly situated at the side of a mountain canyon offering spectacular views, far from the noisy streets, although you might get the small groups of tourists with their guide. I think it is one of the best locations in town. You are just minutes away from many great restaurants and shops, but it is also tranquil most of the day. No one would know the beautiful caves are actually part of a hotel. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly, speaking a few languages. Very responsive, most of our extra requests were completed within a reasonable time. The hotel offers free shuttle from many parking areas in Matera to the hotel, otherwise inaccessible by your own car as the ZTL is in effect most of the day.

Staff was very helpful. Very good with transportation and site seeing recommendations. It is very close to everything in old town.

The property is located in the Sassi- these are stone cave dwellings of ancient times. They are amazing. Our hotel room was a modern version with beautiful design appointments and a spectacular view.
